Victoria Peak

Here is a tip I discovered accidentally and was very happy that I did. Take the bus (bus 15 right outside Hong Kong station) on the way up and the tram on the way down. It will save hours and hours of waiting.

The peak is definetly a must do for visitors. It offers one of the best views of the city, and you need to visit both in the daytime and night.
For me, it offers plenty of photography opportunities both day and night, a natural stairmaster (aka Old Peak Road), and lots of hiking trails (Peak Circle Walk).
All this is close to Central accessible by taxi, peak tram, bus, minibus from IFC or hiking up (either from HKU or Old Peak Road).

This is an absolute must visit since it is one of the biggest HK tourist attractions, but beware, I took the bus option and the ride takes about 25 minutes and the drivers drive like they just saw The Fast and the Furious for the very first time. I thought they were trying to drift on a double decker bus lol All I remember was almost falling out of my seat 4 times and having to grab the «oh shit» bar in front of me several times to brace myself. On the way back, the tram line, around 4pm, was so insanely packed so I did the bus route again. But all is worthwhile for the amazing views of Hong Kong, you get such a wonderful view of Victoria Harbour, Central and Kawloon. This place will be packed to the gills with people so be patient and then take lots of photos.

The peak is the highest point in Hong Kong island, a major tourist attraction that offers an incredible view of the city. Definitely go here if you are already in the area. I cannot imagine being in Hong Kong and not visiting this place. If you can only do one thing, go here. Take pictures of the beautiful skyline and get a glimpse of Central, Victoria Harbour, Kowloon, etc.
*Skip the taxi* (that is, if you don’t mind a jam-​packed tram ride)
To get the full experience, I suggest you buy an octopus card to get to the central station. Then take the tram to Victoria Peak. Peak tram skypass costs HK$ 83 roundtrip and comes with a touchscreen audio tour available in six different languages. Expect plenty of tourists on every car, but the wait shouldn’t be that long — one tram comes every 10 – 15 minutes.
Depending on the time of the year, it could get a bit foggy up here. I came here last month and even though there were light showers throughout the day, we were still able to get decent pictures. My group arrived at the ticket booth right before they opened in the morning, so we didn’t have to wait.

Victoria Peak is seen as sort of a must-​visit place in Hong Kong, and I can see why. It offers an incredible view of the city, one that I’m not sure you can get elsewhere. I went with my family at night, when it was dark and the whole city is lit up beautifully around the water. It’s great for pictures, but also could be difficult to get a super great one of just the view unless you have a great camera — just because there are so many little details you’d want to capture in the picture.
There’s a cute little tram that brings you up the mountain to the peak. There can be a bit of a wait, but it wasn’t too bad when we went (not sure if going at night had anything to do with it). The tram is sort of rickety and shaky, and on the way back down the mountain on the tram, you go backwards (sitting facing up the mountain as the tram goes down), which can be a tadddd scary, but if you like roller coasters or are up for a slight thrill, it won’t be a problem ;)
I enjoyed my visit to Victoria Peak — I’m not sure I would return by myself if I were to visit HK again, but I would probably go back to bring friends there who haven’t seen the view. Very beautiful.

Take a cab up to the peak, take the tram back down. You will be glad you did since the wait time is insane at the bottom, but not too bad at the top.

Must see tourist spot. Amazing view of the city even amidst fog and pollution. The best spot for the best view at the Skydeck. It’s extra for a ticket but worth it.

Victoria Peak is definitely a «tourist» attraction, however it does have a gorgeous view of Hong Kong’s skyline. If you haven’t gone before be sure to get there early in the morning to avoid long lines and do not pay the extra fee to get access to the rooftop once you’ve reached the peak, it’s simply not worth it (there’s plenty of great and free unobstructed views of Hong Kong). Lastly if you feel like walking up or have a dog its a lot of fun and you can always ride back down.

This is a tourist attraction place. Almost like all tourist must visit place. Came here to get a view of the entire Hong Kong and I guess the weather isn’t that great. It was a bit foggy but i did get to see some view.

This is a long overdue review but better late than never! I’d like to start off by saying I was NOT born and raised in Hong Kong. Im from New York but I do have Cantonese origins. I came here during the summer of 2014.
To get to Victoria peak you would either need to take the tram or you can taxi it. I would suggest the tram for the experience and to be money savvy.
Keep in mind that this is a tourist attraction, therefore everything will be expensive. Before coming to Victoria peak, a word of advice is to buy an octopus card. They’ll be your 2^nd credit card once you’re in Hong Kong. You don’t have to wait for the lines for tickets (I would assume the lines are long.) All you need to do is beep your octopus card and up the escalators you go!
I went during the day and I honestly wish I came back a second time during the night. Regardless of it being day or night, the scenery leaves me speechless and in awe. Victoria is a must if you’re vacationing in Hong Kong. You can see all the skyscrapers, Kowloon and Victoria Harbour. Thinking about the views makes me a bit nostalgic. Anyways, happy travels everyone!

I wasn’t in the mood to take the tram up, so we took a taxi up to Victoria Peak. You might want to take the tram if you want that experience. I just wanted to get to the top.
Fortunately, we came towards the end of the day. So we had a view of HK before the sun came down. Then, after doing some shopping and perusing in the mall, we came back outside to see the view at night. The HK skyline brightens up like a birthday cake in a dark room. The view is worth the trip, as the city is beautiful. You might have to wait a bit to get a clear shot but generally things are civil. Just watch out for selfie sticks.

GORGEOUS view of Hong Kong (Central, Victoria Harbour, Kowloon, and some of the islands on a good day). They have a free audio guide in multiple languages describing some of the tall buildings in the skyline.
And of course they’re here to make even more money off of us so they block off a section of the best view for their photo shoots. Might be worth it if you want a photo with just you (and/​or your group) in the background. It DOES make for a stunning photo.

TIP: Make sure to go on a sunny day if possible! Then you can see everything best from so high up!
TIP: Go at NIGHT! So you can see the beautiful lights from the Hong Kong Skyline!
TIP: Once you get off the TRAM make sure to explore OUTSIDE the big building it lets you off in.
TIP: You must find the trail that is away from the tourist area. The trail is not OBVIOUS. There is a green sign with chinese writing, no english. There is a model train outside, find it, while facing it go left of it and seemingly toward residential street. It is a paved trail, safe (with rails), and 12 people wide. It seems like the residents use this trail to walk/​jog and I barely found tourists while walking it. This is where I took my pictures from.
Maybe the biggest tourist attraction in Hong Kong, but well worth it and not as crazy slammed as one might expect. The reason why is up top, its a pretty big area, so plenty of area to spread out. To get up to this peak most people use Peak Tramways and you can find my review by searching for «Peak Tramways» here on Unilocal.There are plenty of restaurants up here that seemed packed, didn’t try though. But I did have a visit to Starbucks :)
You can spend hours up here because it is like its own mini village. Food, drinks, VIEW. Can’t wait to return.

Don’t plan a specific day to go to The Peak. You never know whether it’s going to be a clear day or not. But if you do get a clear day in Hong Kong you’ll be able to catch the Peak Tram to the top which is great fun! The views are spectacular and the ride up is really fun. There are lots of hiking trails around the peak and a large and expensive shopping mall. I had a great morning up here!

Love the peak, the view, the air and the feeling of being on top of the world haha, but don’t like the facilities, that’s why I can’t give it 5 stars.
My dad and I went on a rim walk on the Harlech Road. I can’t call that a real trail because it is, as the name states, a road. There is property deep inside the lush greens as you walk further and cars with special permits can enter, which makes it annoying when you are strolling leisurely and there’s a car trying to come through. Also, I don’t get how people try to be healthy and take a walk out in nature but are smoking at the same time leaving second-​hand smoke for everyone behind. Who does that??? That being said, it’s still worth a trip here because you get to see the view in every angle as the road circles around the peak. Check out the photos!
The shopping plaza there has very limited choices that are obviously overpriced. I was also disappointed that to get up to the 360 degree panoramic view terrace you need to pay $ 48. It used to be free a few years ago, according to my dad. But we went anyway because we’re there already.
The peak tram constantly has long lines. I have no patience for lines so I didn’t go, and I have been on it a few times when I was a kid. But if you haven’t been, it’s definitely worth doing it once because it’s quite an experience! I’d say it’s worth the wait if that’s your first time. The other alternative is to take Bus 15 from Central Pier up to the Peak. If you get on anywhere after the Pier, you won’t be able to find a seat on the bus.

You can’t really «plan» which day you go to the peak. I just waited until I woke up one morning with no particular plans, saw that it was clear skies, and then jetted over to the Central MTR station (exit J2 and then walk up Garden Road). The lineup is for tickets through the tram, which is the iconic, steep tram that goes up the mountain, for about $ 40 return. Alternatively, if you want to skip the line, you can buy a bundle of the tram tickets with the Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum admission. There’s also a more expensive ticket that gives you entrance to the Sky Terrace for a more breathtaking view for $ 83 return.
When you’re up there, there’s a plaza on one side with stores and restaurants, where the free observation deck is. This has some nice views of the harbour on the other side too. The Sky Terrace is located in the same building you arrive in, just keep going upwards on the escalator. Definitely worth a visit if you’re visiting HK for the first time, or even if you’re celebrating a special event. The views are crazy nice.

Despite being a huge tourist attraction, Victoria Peak is truly worth the visit when you’re in Hong Kong. The reasons may not be varied, but they’re quite excellent:
+ The incredible view
+ The hikes…
+ …which allow you to experience even more of the view
I don’t love taking the tram up, as they squeeze you in like sardines, and some tourists can be very pushy, so I’d recommend taking the bus or a taxi up to avoid that hot mess. Regardless, on a sunny, clear day, the view from Victoria Peak is absolutely stunning (a little less so on a smoggy day, but still worth the journey!).

A must-​visit for locals and tourists alike.
If you’ve never taken the tram up to The Peak, it’s an experience you must try at least once – it’s one of those quintessential Hong Kong things that everyone does. For me, I like to hike up there via Caine Road — Conduit Road — Hatton Road — Pinewood Battery /​Morning Trail — Lugard Road — Peak Terrace. The hike is pretty easy and it’s all paved.
At the top, you get stunning views of Hong Kong – beautiful both day and night. One thing I’d tell you to look out for are the selfie sticks. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost been accidentally hit in the face when someone turns around and forgets there are other people around.
There’s a decent selection of restaurants if you’re hungry, although shopping is hit or miss (and a lot more expensive than other places).

Awesome view but also many tourists. But if you walk away for a free minutes you can find wunderful quiet places with great view also.
Its also very nice to walk um instead of using the tram. Its a very nice way through thick forest past by zoological garden.

Of course a must see for a tourist. The view is gorgeous and taking the tram adds to the experience. BUT the wait is horrible. I did come in the summer which may explain the number of tourists. Waiting for the tram took maybe 1.5 hours? Especially in the humid HK weather. But no worries, your problems will go away when you arrive on top to view the HK skyline. If you want good pictures, it’s best to go a little before sunset.
We also paid a little extra for the sky terrace which gives you an even better view. It can be difficult to get a good picture because there aren’t too many places to stand with the number of people up there. They also have a shopping mall in there for tourists to shop and restaurants. There is more then one way to get to the Peak. Tram, bus, taxi. At least take the tram once for the experience!

In rund 428m Höhe auf der Plattform des Victoria Towers lässt es ich BEI GUTEM WETTER und KLARER Sicht gut verweilen. Beeindruckende Bilder von Hongkong, insbesondere des Stadtteils von Kowloon lassen sich von hier produzieren!
Das eigentlich Aufregende ist die Fahrt mit der Peak Tram. Im 19ten Jahrhundert wohl von den Schweizern dort gebaut als Seilzugbahn, geht es teilweise in einem schier unglaublichen Neigungswinkel nach oben, bzw. hinterher wieder nach unten! Das ist ein Erlebnis. Ich empfehle während der Bahnfahrt den «Skispringer» zu simulieren. An der steilsten Stelle beträgt die Steigung rund 48%! Macht wirklich Spaß. Das ganze von der Station unten nach oben (379m), inkl. der Besichtigung der Plattform (Sky Terrasse 428) kostet rund 10 Euro pro Person.
Selbstredend gibt es dort oben alles, was das Touristenherz höher schlagen lässt, Shops, Souvenirs, Shops, Restaurants, Cafés, Shops, Souvenirs, ähhh…Restaurants…ach ich hör auf…
Der Besuch des Victoria Peak´s ist bei jedem Hongkong Erstbesuch Pflicht!

Hong Kong review #5
Hong Kong has one of the most incredible skylines I’ve seen! The best way to view that skyline is either from a boat in Hong Kong harbor (awesome!), or from above on Victoria peak. Day time is really something, but night time is just spectacular!
At just over 1800 feet, Victoria is the highest mountain on Hong Kong island. It is of course a major tourist attraction and as I was a tourist, I had to go too.
There are a few ways to get there. Via taxi or private car on the twisty road that winds it’s way around, or the funicular /​tramway, or perhaps by bus (not 100% on this one). Once you’re at the summit, you will find two shopping centers with restaurants, Peak Tower and Peak Galleria as well as viewing decks and coin-​op telescopes.
The first time we went up, the summit was completely socked-​in with fog. I found it extremely amusing the «powers that be», found it necessary to install a permanent sign, warning of «fog». Duh! LOL
When we went back up the next evening, it was cold and breezy but very clear. We were rewarded with an incredible views of the skyline and all the lights!
OVERALL: Yes «The Peak» is very touristy and can be rather busy at times, but you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Hong Kong skyline!
