Food(*** out of *****); Really tasty beef brisket curry. It was really creamy with coconut cream and a hint of spice. The brisket was average and not all that tender, but wasn’t tough either. Another dish, the baby duck in «old water sauce»(herbs and soy sauce) had a thick layer of rubbery fat under the skin, not exactly my cup of tea. The others in my dining party really liked the duck, though. I guess I can’t expect a duck that wasn’t roasted to have crispy skin with no fat underneath. The«gai lan» or Chinese broccoli stems was average. The oyster and eggs was a total failure. They used some sort of pancake batter and the oysters were a runny, watery mess inside the tasteless pancake. The chicken was average. It was good, but nothing to write home about. The drinks were different. There was the mandarin orange with honey. it was a little sour, kinda like plums. I almost thought I was drinking a plum drink. I also had the pomelo with honey drink. It has a hint of citrus with a hint of sweetness and a delicate tanginess. I enjoyed drinking that. This drink was the best part of the meal. Service(*** out of *****); not applicable. The utensils, napkins, and condiments were in a small drawer underneath the table. This was self-service, so no 10% service charge was applied to the cost of the meal. That said, the staff answered all my questions and brought out the food quickly. Atmosphere(*** out of *****); clean with booths. No table sharing. Conclusion(**** out of *****); The tally is 3 stars but I added a star for value. With no 10% service charge and no added cost for water or tea(tea bags were available in the drawer under the table for you to make your own tea), it is a very economical daily dining option. Plus, they have set meals with a hot drink included such as the drinks that I ordered. You can have a cold drink for 3HKD extra(don’t quote me on that price as my memory is a bit foggy here). I really wasn’t crazy about this restaurant. I would rather go to Café de Coral, which is across the hall in the same shopping center, just 10 steps away from this restaurant. The reason why I gave this restaurant 4 stars even though I don’t like it, is because everyone else I dined with liked it and it was very inexpensive. The only dish that everyone did NOT like was the oyster pancakes. Also, all the other diners sitting at other tables seemed to be enjoying the roast duck, which I did not order. I’ve been told that this was their signature dish. Next time I come back, i will have the roast duck, order 2 drinks and avoid the oyster pancakes. If you live in the area, this is great for daily economical dining. I wouldn’t take a date here or throw my next birthday party here, though.
