Star Ferry Car Park

At one point in time this carpark was the focal point of people coming onto the island– that’s because the Star Ferry pier used to be right across the road, with Queen’s Pier right next to it. These days its does feel a bit isolated in the sense that its in the middle of nowhere (without nothing around it anyways) but this has long been one of the most popular carparks for those coming to Central.
You might not know it but this building was actually built in the 60s along with the structures around it like the City hall and if you look carefully it bears the hallmark for post war design (just like the City Hall). Compared to modern carparks the parking spaces are a little tight here as they were designed before the days we all started jumping into SUVs.
The roof of this carpark is also sight to behold– this is the best place to truly appreciate how far Hong Kong has come in becoming an international financial heart– you will be able to see all the buildings in Central surrounding you like a canyon and many films, magazines have shot scenes from here.
In a sign that its moving on with modern trends, a number of spaces on the G/​F are now fitted with plugs for electric vehicles– that’s something they certainly would not have thought of back in the 1960s.
The parking fees here are steep though they are still the cheapest in Central– that means I will still park here as long as they don’t tear it down.
