The best pineapple bun and milk tea in all of HK. Definitely worth the trip here. The trick is to come when it’s busy so the turnover is high. You’re guaranteed to get one hot from the stove.

The pineapple buns and the egg tarts are really quite delicious here. Incredibly soft and the right amount of chewy. What brings this place down is the terrible service. I have been to very few places that actually push you out and make you feel so disrespected as a customer. They made my experience so stressful. I bought a lot of buns from them, and wanted to sit down and have a drink. But they kept coming out and rushing my order, even though I kept telling them we were still deciding. Eventually they were so insistent and made the experience so frustrating that we just left with the buns. I would come back for the buns, but never again for sit down service. Wow.

Fantastic food. We had the Portuguese egg tarts and pineapple bun. Not accounting for the cold food, I’m giving it a low rating for what I think is unreasonable customer service. We came when no one else was at the restaurant and none of the seats were taken. Because we didn’t buy any beverages we were not allowed to sit down. I understand there was a poster noting this on the premises, but the lack of flexibility is a strike against an otherwise good eating experience.

Food(***** out of *****); I have literally searched the globe for the best egg tart. I have had egg tarts in the best reviewed egg tart places in San Fran, L.A., Dallas, New York, Macau, and HK. However, this is without a doubt the best egg tart in the world. The filling is not overly sweet as to overpower the natural egg flavor. They added a bit of vanilla to it so it was quite fragrant. Also, the crust is very flaky with multiple delicate paper thin layers. It is absolutely divine and definitely better than the legendary Tai Cheong Bakery(泰昌餅家) if you like a flaky crust rather than the shortbread crust that Tai Cheong serves. The milk tart is ok. The egg tart is much better. The egg tart is much more fragrant and flavorful than the milk tart. I do not like pineapple bread. Every dim sum joint sells it and every Chinese bakery sells it. I hate it. Why? Because pineapple bread is almost always too sweet, dry, and very solid with absolutely zero fluffiness. Yuck. However, i noticed when I read the Unilocal reviews that everyone is a real fan of the pineapple bread here. You know what they say, «when in Rome, do as the Romans do.» I saw everyone in line buy only the egg tart and pineapple bread, so I rolled with it and bought a pineapple bread just to try it. It was so good I got back into line after I was done and bought another one! LOL ;0) The pineapple bread is fragrant with just a hint of sweetness. It is not too sweet. It also is extremely fluffy and full of tiny holes like a sponge. This pineapple bread tastes like you’re biting into a little cloud with a neat crust that has a hint of pineapple. It has turned this pineapple bread hater into a pineapple bread lover. Atmosphere(N/A); I did not dine in but bought the food to go, so I cannot comment on the atmosphere. Service(N/A); I did not dine in but bought the food to go, so I cannot comment on the service. Conclusion(***** out of *****); For the world’s best pineapple bread and egg tarts, head straight to the Sai Kung Café & Bakery ;0)

The Portuguese egg tarts here are freaking amazing. My great uncle bought me some the last time I came back to Hong Kong to visit and I instantly fell in love, so I made it a priority to come and get some for myself this time; and to visit my great uncle of course! In Macau, they are known for their Portuguese egg tarts, but I think the ones at Sai Kung Café’s are so MUCH better! They are soft and fluffy and just all kinds of amazing! The one downside is the cost though. As of my last visit a few weeks ago, they were $ 11HKD for one. But still worth it!

Simply put, it’s my favorite bakery of all time. The main thing that I, and pretty much everyone else comes for, are the Portuguese Egg Tarts and the Pineapple Bun(my favorite). Portuguese Egg Tarts: These aren’t like the sugary egg tarts you find back in the States, you can actually taste the egg yolk in such a good way that brings out much more flavor, in that it has it’s own type of subtle sweetness. The crust, unlike traditional egg tarts, is flaky rather that crumbly. It’s more like a Palmier rather than shortcake. It’s perfect. Pineapple Bun: Simple, lightly sweet everything that it should be and more. I love this with everything that I am. Even more incredible with a slice of butter, but it costs a bit more here than other places just to add it on. If you can maintain your patience and bring it back home to add your own slice, all the power to you. I’ll gladly splurge. They also offer a small selection of traditional Hong Kong style breakfast here, the ox tail macaroni was something my mom would cook growing up, simple and down to earth. Best come early because the lines build up REALLY quick, so keep that in mind.

Last Friday I came here for pineapple buns again. In good timing and with a long queue, the pineapple buns are crispy and hot! As for the service, this time is as busy as usual so service is as minimal as usual, but my mum has given me another side of the story… she was here a while ago, so careless that she dropped the 2 pineapple buns she ordered on the floor **heartbroken** So lovely that they have given her 2 freshly baked pineapple buns for free! **heart melt**

One of my Sai Kung favourite. Excellent HK style pineapple bun. If you like pineapple bun, you need to try this restaurant. The hot food is so-so though. If it’s not the nearly non-existence service I will give this a 4 stars. The«waitresses» are just there to teach you how to serve yourself rather than helping you. You need to order at the counter, bring your food to your table and the waitresses will just make sure you won’t occupy their table for too long a time.

Pineapple buns today, pineapple buns every day! Always order their pineapple buns. They are the best in the world. I would travel to the ends of the world for their delicious freshly baked piping hot out of the oven pineapple buns. Located on the street behind the promenade, Sai Kung Bakery usually is sold out of their pineapple buns. They are constantly baking pineapple buns because it’s probably their #1 item on the menu. Biting into the soft buns and chewing it in your mouth will be a piece of baking heaving that just landed. Such an awesome food experience and euphoria. Do not leave Sai Kung without getting these pineapple buns!
