Food is consistently good, they specialize in only one thing — Japanese fried cutlet. Also take payment via Octopus card

This is one our favourite places to eat on the airside of the airport. It is really luxury eating at the airport. It is located at the food. Its menu is broadly similar to what is on offer at its restaurants in town. The quality is also good.

You’re at an airport and you want to eat something good? Walk right past Popeye’s and McDonalds and see the goodness that is chicken or pork katsu. Simple and delicious. A++ would eat while waiting for flight again.

10 years ago, we probably had five restaurants at the airport and you could choose whatever you wanted. Now we probably have 20 different restaurants, but there will be queues in front of all of them, and all the seats and tables are taken by people not really having their meals but playing on their phone. McDonald’s? Don’t even think about it. Popeyes? I used to like it but they are just too slow delivering their food. Tsui Wah? Again a lot of people. Not to mention the quality of most shops automatically down by half a star instantly at their airport branch. That left me with Saboten. Just probably $ 15 pricier than all other options around, and instantly there’s a queue. Ordered like a breeze, food is made within 7mins. The most difficult thing was still finding a seat, and I was even by myself. There seemed like«staff» helping out people to get a seat(they were probably in a better position to ask people who are occupying seats without having any food to leave. I’m not sure if it’s efficient against some tourists though). I ordered an Oyakodon(Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl). Tasted very good and on par with a lot of options in downtown. Definitely a portion that’d make you VERY full too. Wish there’s a better system with the seating arrangement, but that’s not Saboten’s fault anyway.

In this world, there are two types of restaurants: restaurants, and restaurants that live up to their name. What does that even mean? If you’re looking for some downright delicious tonkatsu, look no further! Saboten’s title is «World’s Best Tonkatsu», and it definitely does not disappoint. Flaky, crispy batter and tender, juicy meat. This was for sure the BEST tonkatsu I’ve ever had! The sauce, which you mix with sesame seeds, provides a soothing complement to the heavenly tonkatsu. Some of you may be wondering, Saboten or Ajisen Ramen(its neighbor)? The answer is BOTH! That’s exactly what I did, because I wanted tonkatsu and I wanted ramen. If your stomach(and your wallet) are permitting, don’t hold back. #TreatYoSelf

There you have it! The letter from Tokyo straight to your heart(and stomach)! $ 110HKD gets you the same good pork cutlet you have been jones’n for. For five years, it’s been my «go to place» and even if I stray away, I still come back.

5 stars for airport food? unreal. but actually, this place is great. it started when I studied abroad in hong kong, and since then, it has just become tradition for me to get saboten before getting on my flight no matter what time of the day it is. 5 stars to saboten for making the most kick ass katsu i’ve had since japan. the breading is on point and is so flaky, you have to try it. the curry is awesome, but i actually prefer the version with the sauces and sesame. awesome flavor and i like it better with the rice, but both are good.

Before your leave Hong Kong Airport, must stop by Saboten and have their TONKATSU. I never liked tonkatsu. When my boyfriend said I must try Saboten’s tonkatsu, I was hesitant. I’d much rather eat Ajisen Ramen the next stand over(and I don’t like Ajisen, but that’s how much I dislike Tonkatsu). I gave in and I’m so glad I did. Changed my life! It converted me into loving Tonkatsu. All these years, I’ve had bad tonkatsu no matter how fancy the restaurant is. So please, even if you don’t like tonkatsu, Saboten will change your mind! Why can’t we have this back at home!!! :(
