香港にて俺のシリーズデビュー。どうしてこうなる! Been wanting to check out the Ore No series(French being the original format in Ginza, Tokyo, «Ore No» meaning«My damn way»), and I wasn’t disappointed. Given the general mediocrity and high price of Japanese cuisine in HK, I think this one is a genuine standout for value. A cynical view might be to call their dishes the kinds of things you might find at an extremely nice Japanese wedding banquet. Lots of recognizably deluxe ingredients, ever so slightly stretched out(I’m looking at you, creamy uni gelee with gold flakes on top) to meet certain cost guidelines. But as you can imagine, a nice Japanese wedding banquet would have some darned tasty items on the menu. Drinks in particular are fabulous deals. Most notably the sake selection, and the house sparkling wine. All in all: Recommended! Try to order beyond the standard crowd pleasers, because there’s much more to modern Japanese cuisine than sushi, tonkatsu, and soy-mirin glaze.

Been here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. I’d return for the lunch sets but not for dinner. I had a miso cod set for lunch which was a really good deal at around $ 130, considering how cod is so expensive in supermarkets. The size of the fish was surprisingly big, and it was very succulent. Dinner was not as good, as the portions were quite small for the price. The veggie tempura platter was lovely, not too oily and with a nice variety of veggies like sweet potatos, mushrooms, sugar snap peas etc. The beef curry with rice was delicious, but there were only 3 tiny pieces of beef in the curry. Stay away from the soba noodles with mullet roe, we ordered it as it was recommended in a magazine, but it was so fishy and weird tasting that we only had 2 bites and asked them to clear it.

I went here last night, walked in, got seated at the bar. The décor was nice, with tall wooden things, and they had a sushi bar, and a standing area outdoors and lounge area next to the reception. We tried the recommendation of beef with foie gras. Honestly I am not a big fan of foie gras, but the foie gras that I like is crispier on the outside. This one was a bit thick, and yellowish in color. I just feel like foie gras is not a delicacy anymore if it’s all made in China. It’s not of quality. Anyway I’m not sure where they get the goose liver but I didn’t like it. The beef was fine, it was tenderloin, so less fat, but it was tender. I was looking at the other chefs cook and I feel like we went with the wrong beef. There was a wagyu beef with asparagus and garlic that looked delicious. Anyway, we tried the rice with crab and miso crab too. I didn’t like it. Crab was dry and the miso crab sauce was not as tasty as I expected. We tried the salad with miso dressing I think, it was good and light but no wow factor. My fiancé wanted to try the avocado and scallop salad, which I think would have been better. They also recommended the sashimi platter, the chef said it came with toro, uni, and other fish(no shrimp or eel). But we didn’t try it because the beef was supposed to feed around 3 – 4 people, the chef said. Anyway, you need to buy a water bottle, no tap water, which is fine, but the glass smelled fishy which made the water not as good. I love acqua panna water, but the glass makes all the difference. Just like wine. You don’t drink a burgundy wine in a Bordeaux glass do you? I would give this place another try but I would not order any of the dishes I ordered. Oh and you can drink the most expensive sake with only +$ 99 above market price. Any sake.
