It is an «indirect connection» from the MTR. You have to get out of the Yuen Long MTR station, walk down stair and get to the Light Rail platform. I did not have the Octopus card and not really sure how to pay (as my ticket was collected after exiting the MTR). I went on the Light Rail anyway as it is a honor system and I can explain to the inspector should they ask.
The Light Rail itself was efficient and frequent. The A/​C worked well in the hot humid Hong Kong summer. It made frequent stops along the main thoroughfare in Yuen Long. Absolutely no complaint and enjoyed the ride — and benefited from its convenience!
