Popped into this Mak’s Noodles restaurant for a quick noodle fix. As other reviewers have mentioned it’s pretty small and crowded. Portions are smaller than average however the quality is more important, and as you know good things come in small packages(or something like that). Anyway, don’t go if you want one large bowl and want to sit on your own. Do go if you want a superior«local» noodle experience. Very good soup, very tasty dumplings and Won Ton. Pork with chutney(and noodles of course) was sweet but not sickly. Vegetables in Oyster sauce were al-dente and a pleasure to eat. Menu was in English, service was fine, restaurant was very clean, and the price was a cheap HK$ 160 for 3 pax. Recommend.

Apart from Chee Kee, this is fast turning into a must have wonton noodle house in Hong Kong for me. The texture of the noodle is amazing. The stewed beef in Chinese spices and beef tendon is the bomb for me. Reasonably priced, not too overly crowded. This is possible a little more restock in the setting than Chee Kee wonton noodle house, but it’s Hong Kong old school. Totally recommended.

It’s been a couple of months since I was here, but I can’t stop thinking about those shrimp dumplings I had here and the wonton noodles I had here. I honestly never felt the need to go out of my way for some wonton noodles because, like pasta, how much better can it taste? The answer: wayyyyyy better than I’ve ever had before. The noodles had that nice, rubbery/elasticky crunch when I bit into it, and the broth had no hint of msg in there. The wontons were also crazy juicy, and the shrimp dumplings had a bit of soup on the inside that just bumped it to the next level. The service was super quick and accomodating, and the wait was very minimal.

If I could, I would rate this Mak’s as 3 ½ stars. I had some time by myself one afternoon, so I decided to head over to this Mak’s(relatively close to the train station). There was about 6 parties ahead of me, but I was seated in about 15 minutes. As you can imagine, the place it pretty tiny. They ended up seating me at a really small table for two: of course, right after I ordered, they seated another woman across from me(don’t come here if you have personal space issues, for sure). I went ahead and just ordered a bowl on wonton beef brisket noodles. It came out in less than 5 minutes, and it was definitely on the small side. However, the wontons tasted fresh, and the noodles as great texture. My small bowl was about 50HKD, so it definitely isn’t cheap. However, what better way to get acquainted with Hong Kong than to head to a tiny noodle shop and order some wonton noodle soup?

Its been a long while since I went to their central shop, so I decided to continue my wonton noodle soup adventure. Just finished my 1st round of of wonton noodles from Mak Man Kee up the street, it’s a very clear distinction of the wonton noodles among the two places. Not a fan of the soup base here as it was on a strong white peppery side. Wonton wrapper was on the soggy side and not sure if they were already pre-blanched. Bad move on there behalf as it was not even half as busy as Mak Man Kee. Noodles here was did not have a strong lye/Sodium Hydroxide(梘水) aroma as the other shop.

This is an offshoot of the Mak’s Noodles located in Central and pretty much tastes exactly the same. It is only a small eatery with seating for about 20 odd people and there is normally a queue outside. But never fear, it moves quite quickly and you’re in and out as let’s face it, a simple noodle house isn’t a place you linger. Portion sizes are small compared to most western comparisons so I find Mak’s an ideal afternoon snack to tie you over until a later feast. The broth is classical and clean and the string thin noodles have a nice crunch to them whilst the prawn wontons are juicy and fresh.
