Maison Eric Kayser was a bakery that I passed by and then walked back to check it out — their salads available apparently was an attraction for me as someone who likes salad. Located right opposite hotel Indigo, this even gave me an excuse to just grab something at the bakery and return to the hotel after a long day! Their salad bar isn’t exactly extensive, but you’d be able to get what you wish for mostly. Prices are not exactly on the cheap side, but after trying out their salad and Sandwich, I’m not complaining! Also, the attendant here was being very friendly too! I had their Greek salad, and it was fresh :) will return to the place!

Maison Eric Kayser is a French bakery located directly across the street from the Hotel Indigo, which made this bakery a natural choice during my first visit to Hong Kong. Though I usually avoid pastries for breakfast — my jam is either yogurt or protein — the lure of fresh baked goods steeped in French tradition was simply unavoidable! I have high expectations for almond croissants(they’re my favorite!) and I always order that flavor when I’m craving a croissant. However, Eric Kayser offers a chocolate almond croissant that was too tempting to pass up… unfortunately, the croissant lacked the delicate, flaky nature that is synonymous with the popular pastry. I’m not sure if the croissant simply wasn’t fresh or if it’s just not baked in the style that I am accustomed, but I didn’t even finish it. The coffee was more than fine though, and helped propel me through some especially powerful(err, crushing) bouts of jet lag on two occasions. If I’m going to splurge on pastries for breakfast, I certainly hope they’ll be worth their weight in calories! My humble opinion? Skip this one.

I overcame the sadness of losing my downstairs Starbucks once I first stepped into this buildings new occupant… as a European… honestly… we’re really not used to this high price level in a bakery shop… but now… this place became my bread supplier, at least most certainly in the weekend. The pain de champagne, the olive buns, pain aux raisins… it’s all really very very good.
