I love Groupon — I find myself browsing the application on my phone almost every day to check on the new deals they might have. My most recent Groupon purchase? 2 rounds of facials at let’spa. My first impression of the place wasn’t very good — when I called to make an appointment, the lady on the other end was rather short with me. When she asked for my phone number and repeated it, she actually said one digit wrong, but I didn’t even correct her because I could sense her frustration. It might have been because I called to make the booking at close to 10pm, when they close at 11pm, so perhaps she was just really looking forward to the end of her long day? I don’t know. That aside, I enjoyed the facial. The facialist was very nice and made conversation with me, asking me if I studied overseas, if I’m on summer holiday now etc. I liked that she took out all the gunk — all the blackheads — very patiently and seemed quite thorough. She explained the products that she used as well, which I appreciated — I like being in the know of what’s being slathered on my face. The facial featured products from a UK brand called Cowshed, which uses all-natural ingredients in their skincare line. A 15-massage was also included and because this was supposedly a massage with slimming properties, I got to choose which area of my body to have it done on — I went with upper arm. At first, I didn’t know that this was a slimming massage so I told them I wanted my shoulders and neck to be done, and they seemed really confused! Although the facial and the massage was good, I was slightly put off by the fact that the staff were constantly hard-selling me to pay more than I already had. The facialist didn’t do this much — it was more so one of the ladies at the reception. She told me that if I added $ 180, my facial can include a ‘double mask’, an eye balm treatment and something else — I wasn’t too sure. I politely declined and said maybe I will add the amount for my second facial, and she told me ‘well why not just add it now? You’ll get so much more out of it!’. I declined again, trying to make it clear I wasn’t interested right now. After my facial, I was asked if I wanted to pre-pay $ 180 to add the extra package for my second facial, which I again said no — next time. To be frank, I don’t know if I’ll add that $ 180 the next time round. I felt that my facial was pretty good already — very moisturizing and I could feel my skin getting cleared up. The spa is located conveniently opposite Times Square and the facility is very neat and clean. I wouldn’t hesitate giving this a four stars, but the hard selling was just not very pleasant at all!
