A rare 大排檔 daipaidong in the heart of Central. Being on the side street of Elgin, it allowed the owner to dodge the exorbitant amount of rent which most establishments has to pay and pass onto their customers. Food here in Central /Soho is a charged at a premium. Here you still can find a hearty beef brisket noodle for $ 37 and the best thing is you don’t have to queue up like crazy Kaukee down at Gough St. Their tongsui or sweet soup is an excellent choice as well after the meal. If you want to enjoy the old Hong Kong without heading over to the dark side, please give this place a try.

I’ve been here a few times and have ordered their beef brisket in soup and dry and I have to say it’s pretty amazing. I prefer this outdoor seating restaurant for the one across the road as the brisket and tendons are so tender, the egg noodle is less bicarbonate tasting and you can also get a traditional Asian dessert after your meal for just $ 12! Service is not great but seriously, it’s in an outdoor hut and they only really sell a few variations of noodles and dessert. Between taking your order and food arriving is literally under a minute. The menus have English and obviously cash only for this joint, add $ 1 for takeaway.

We were excited to try this place and walked pretty far for it. We even walked through the cockroach infested alleyway to get there. When we got here we asked what the popular items were. The lady responded loudly, «Don’t ask such stupid questions!» She kept ranting and repeating that we were silly and asked stupid questions. The reason we asked was because the menus on the walls were in Chinese and we couldn’t read it, but have been getting away with asking for recommendations in Cantonese. This time it didn’t work out too well for us… The lady was so rude, so we took our business elsewhere. She probably scares all the customers away purposely so she can eat all the leftovers herself.

What a find! Friend brought us here to try the beef noodle soup and wow! Brisket was amazingly tender! I got a second bowl! Even took a pic with the owner. She’s awesomely rude and nice at the same time. Love it! We will make this a must stop every time we’re in the area.
