My HK friend who works in the area showed me this place. Telford plaza. We ate around lunch time and got a table pretty quickly. They offer an ‘AYCE’ hot pot. You order the meat and the other hot pot ingredients are the buffet style. This includes the meat and fish balls and vegetables. They offer haagen dazs ice cream for dessert which is included in the lunch special. Super plus! It’s a typical hot pot joint and my first one in HK for travel. The staff is pretty attentive and place is neat. Food on the buffet table is well organized.

Gyu Jin’s all-you-can-eat hotpot dinner includes Haagen Dazs ice cream. Need I say more? I’m a big fan of hot pot — and a big fan of(quality) ice cream, so it’s no surprise that I really like Gyu Jin. I’ve tried many Japanese-style hotpot restaurants in HK — Mou Mou Club, Nabe One, and I have to say that the beef at Gyu Jin is definitely the best. It’s extremely tender, has less fat, and it’s just obviously higher qualify meat. When I come to a Japanese hotpot restaurant, I eat as much meat as I can because that’s where the money’s at — more so than the vegetables and noodles and what not — so good quality beef definitely impresses me! However, I find that the selection of other stuff like vegetables is a little less than at other places. But for me, as long as there is lettuce and golden mushroom, I’m set! They also have a decent array of sauces for you to choose from — I usually go for a mix between the sesame and the citrus sauce. I find that at some hotpot restaurants, the soup base starts to get really salty after a while but that doesn’t happen here! We got the sukiyaki soup base and everybody agreed that it was great. The highlight of a meal at GyuJ in is no doubt the free-flow Haagen Dazs! The last time I was here, they had four flavors — cookies and cream, green tea and two others that I can’t recall. Be sure to set aside some time — and some stomach space — for the ice cream. You’ll need it! The staff here are courteous, food is great and it’s a nice and cosy restaurant. Granted, it is slightly more expensive than many other Japanese hotpot restaurants, but with better meat and unlimited Haagen Dazs, I’m definitely not one to complain!
