Garrett Popcorn

I love Garrett’s popcorn and I’m so glad they have it in Hong Kong now! Having tried the chicago mix in the states, and this time I was curious about the macadamia nut mix. That was likewise delicious! I actually like the caramel corns with nuts because it balances the flavours well. Nonetheless, the cheddar popcorn still takes the number one spot in my popcorn heart :)

I’m used to waiting in a long queue and braving the elements in Garrett’s Chicago birthplace when I’m jonesing for some of their legendary popcorn. The fact that I was able to walk right up at Hong Kong’s IFC Mall location deserves 5 stars on its own!
Chicago Mix (known as Garrett Mix elsewhere) is my go-​to: consisting of caramel popcorn and cheese popcorn varieties mixed together, it may very well be the original sweet and salty combination. This location also features the Macademia CaramelCrisp, which I’ll be sure to try next time!
I never really though much of popcorn as a child and then I tried Garrett’s as a 20-​something adult. Believe me, it’s a life-​changer — standard grocery popcorn will never do again.

In a word– How can you fall in love with popcorn? After this place.

Longer version (for the brave) — I was walking around town with my friend when he stopped and said «you must try this», I was kinda skeptical, as it is just popcorn, so how good can it be?
Well– it can be.
This little shop located inside ifc mall just as you enter from the piers, and attracted my attention immediately, when it comes to snacks I’m always up for trying out new stuff.
So we took a sweet and salty mix with cheesy popcorn for the salty part and caramel popcorn.
Oh. My. God.
This stuff is good. On the borderline of addictive.
At least it fills you up pretty quick so you must stop at some point :)
The flavors are strong and blend in really well together, but also tasty if you eat them separately of course.
And like the napkin says «love is messy» — look at your hands after you’re done! It’s like being a kid again.
On my short layover before going back home I went there once again just to have some more of this awesomeness.
The only thing I regret is taking a small bag and not two large ones!
Can you deliver some back to Berlin? :)

I do not think that I need to tell you guys how popular Garret Popcorn is around the world. However, do you know that it only has one shop in Hong Kong and it is located in IFC? First off, it is definitely not cheap and probably double the price you normal would get at a cinema. But I am telling you this is definitely worth it.
When I was little, whenever I go to the threatre I just had to have popcorns in my mouth — the sweeter the better. However, after some years I started to grow on the salty one instead. For the past few years, I am just very glad that lots of locals here share the same taste and opting for the salty ones as well. As for the flavours here at Garrent, of course they have the classic ones lilke caramel crisp and cheese. What I like the most is the mix of both flavours so you will never know whether it is going to be sweet or salty. All popcorns here are freshly made so do not worry about them being not crispy enough. Honestly, I have once left popcorns on my desk for an hour and afterwards they are just as crispy. If you want to buy that as a gift, they too sell boxes and different packages so there simply has no excuse not to take out the money from your wallet!
I really hope to see more Garret Poopcorns in Hong Kong as I really do not know where else I can get nice salty popcorns except here or in Hong Kong Disneyland…

I’ve never been a fan of popcorn, but Garrett’s has definitely changed my mind with regard to this snack delight.
The brand itself, has had a very long history, being a «Chicago tradition» since 1949. They have a particularly interesting signature flavour, the Chicago mix. This is a mix of cheese flavoured and caramel crisp flavoured popcorn, all mixed into one bag. Yes sweet and savoury all mixed together.
Of course, they have the regular flavours, such as buttery or plain, as well as two speciality flavours macadamia caramel and almond caramel. However, if you are a Garrett’s novice, I suggest you stick with the Chicago mix.
I always thought that Garrett was a chain store in Hong Kong, but it seems that it only has one outlet, and that is the one IFC Mall in Central. The store also has a few gift ideas, such as reusable popcorn tins with a traditional Garrett’s brand design. They also sell the popcorn in a variety of different sizes so it is quite easy to have something to take the cinema, or to cater for large party.
The staff are great, and will let you have tasters of the flavours.
Give it a go, it’s definitely quite more-​ish.
