I had such high hopes for Flint, but left disappointed with my meal. Ambiance: definitely worthy of JW quality. Truly tasteful architecture and design make this a prime spot for your date night or corporate guests. Service: efficient but maybe too much so. I was seated immediately and three persons instantaneously appeared at my table to pour me water, offer bread, and set down my menu. Slow down people. A fourth person took my order, and then persons five and six served my meal. Why can’t I just have a normal relationship with the cute girl who poured my water? Of course, no sooner than when I placed the last morsel of food in my mouth was when the cute girl instantaneously whisked away my plate and bread(that I would have liked to finish). Food: disappointing. The foie gras appetizer was bland and tasteless. Actually it was really a mushroom appetizer with a sliver of foie gras that also tasted like a bland mushroom. Really disappointing. Creamed spinach was just those two ingredients. No flavor at all. I added salt and pepper but did not improve it. The steak: tenderloin that was not so tender. I expect my filet to be soft like a slice of cake, and this was not. I’m even more annoyed that the waiter talked me into medium rare which made it that much tougher in the center. Medium would have been more to my liking. I smothered it with the mustard sauce to attempt improvement. Overall, I’d say it’s a scene for ambiance and entertainment. I saw some seafood towers at the other tables that looked interesting. But my simple steak meal disappointed.

I’ve been here a couple of times. The first time was a Christmas celebration, I came here with two close friends. The ambience of the restaurant was very trendy, at the same time upscale. As we entered the restaurant, there was a dark lounge area, either for waiting or to grab a few drinks. The restaurant itself had a different atmosphere, it was bright and lively. There’s a cold kitchen in the middle so patrons could see all the action. We were seated next to the cold kitchen, it was fun to watch. We ordered steak, some appetisers. The steak was done very well. It was a good quality piece of steak, and was grilled so that there was a bit of crispy part on the outside. Cutting into the steak, the temperature was exactly at medium rare, thankyouverymuch. We practically inhaled it! Back to the appetisers, which were excellent, I have to highlight one thing that impressed me. We got normal fries, but my friend and I wanted truffle. We asked a server and he came back saying they don’t have any, BUT he has already asked the kitchen to check. They came back minutes later with a small sauce bowl of truffle oil. They didn’t have truffle mayo or anything like that, however, they made the effort to go out of their way to provide us with what we asked for. Not many restaurants, especially of this scale would accommodate to a request like ours, we were thoroughly impressed and with that, we decided this was definitely a restaurant to return to. Desserts are great too. Don’t miss out on the S’mores cake! Delish!

I chose Flint Bar & Grill at the JW Marriot for one of those many«special occasions» one has with their significant other. Flint seemed like the perfect place for a date, seeming classy, upscale, intimate — and at the time, fairly new. We got off to a roaring start with the cocktails — a Mai Tai signature, a Gold Label whisky cocktail with orange peel and cinnamon, and a lemongrass infused vodka cocktail. Big ups on their mixology and I would definitely recommend the bar for drinks with that Tinderiffic someone. For appetisers, the Baked Oysters were too cheesy, and I couldn’t for the life of me taste any of the pancetta or spinach that it claimed to have under the scorched cheese. Good or bad, that’s really up to you to decide. I love cheese, so excess is not necessarily a fault… The decadent duck foie gras and wagyu croquettes were a little underseasoned, but the fig reduction cut into the richness of the meat with flair. To be honest, the only side dish I had absolutely no qualms with was the assorted sautéed mushrooms in garlic butter and parsley, but who could really screw that up? Everyone was telling us to go for the seafood grill as a main, which consists of mussels, a single scallop, lobster thermidor, a crab claw, a small portion of fish dubbed ‘the catch of the day’, and a grilled tiger prawn with Flint’s signature rub. For $ 380, this was reasonably good value for money, great for one person, and the seafood was well-cooked. I vividly remember drowning all the seafood in the delicious jug of lobster bisque with sadistic pleasure. From my experience, I would avoid the Specials and stick to their signatures — our lamb rump special was more inedible fat than rump. In all, there were definitely a few hit and misses here, but it doesn’t deter me from another visit.
