I have no idea how I got dragged into this one as I quickly noticed I was literally the only person with a penis here for high tea. Knowledge was dropped on me when I was told rich housewives were the main clientele for this sort of thing so I was pretty flattered I was in such company :) I was invited by my sister and her friend as this was judged as the most affordable high tea spot that still had reservations readily available. I bucked the trend and got a really sweet coffee drink, and the spread of Scandinavian appetizers and other sweets on the high tea tray(I don’t know what to call that multi-tiered serving tray thing). I always love me some smoked salmon, and it was really good here. Service was top notch, the décor of the restaurant was nice and the vibe was nice and relaxed. I even saw another gentleman on the way out — we gave each other a look of acknowledgement and respect(although he may have been totally zoned out as he was also checked out of the conversation at his table).

I wasn’t too impressed. A few years earlier I went to Dada Bar + Lounge which was fun(late review to follow this one on the latter place). I had a dragonberry or some type of berries cocktail. Weak. Staff was so nice though, but not attentive. I did go on a brunch Sunday while in wait for my friend coming from NYC. Eh. Not a fave, but not the worst.

My first venture to Finds was actually in the day when they were still at Lan Kwai Fong tower– to this day I think they are still the only place that focuses on Nordic and Scandinavian food. First thoughts? Ikea. Not quite– the setting is very cozy and you can see why some of the most innovative designs come from our friends in Northern Europe; its just effortlessly stylish and very quickly you will find the restaurant a cozy place to be. The food is very seafood orientated(as expected) and the sharing platter that I had was very good. Maybe I’m a seafood lover but the portion and taste was simply exemplary. Salmon is a mainstay here with mussels also a must recommended by everyone who comes here. In general the tasting menu should be sufficient for any one looking for a taste of the North Sea. Being a works do that i was part of– there was plenty to drink. The drinks were great and indeed it did get the better of me. However, in my hazy recollection I do remember that I should come back here again and try out the food with a more sober mindset.

FINDS is the only Restuarant in Hong Kong specializes in Scandinavian cuisine. The name FINDS is actually an acronym for Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark & Sweden. With a décor featuring lots of wood and a round bar, the restaurant offers both an interesting menu and innovative cocktail list. It is interesting to note that they offer what is known as «Social Dining» concept: large plates of starters, main course and desserts perfect for sharing among friends. You can choose from a hot or cold starters for sharing. We ordered the cold plate and it featured a lot of seafood(as expected) such as scallops, shrimps and salmon. There were some hits(pastrami salmon) and some misses(smoked shrimp) but overall the seafood was fresh and well presented. As for the sharing main course, the chicken was beautiful with a crispy skin wrapped around juicy tender meat. The beef tenderloin was also very well smoked and cooked. Dessert was competent but nothing to write home about. Service was very competent and staff very well trained. Bottomline: scalable menu(meaning it’s enjoyable no matter the size of your party), interesting cocktail menu, aquavit(!)
