HKD15 for a big bowl of congee and add a couple bucks for the crispy hot deep fried dough to go with it… How can you beat it?! It isn’t my favorite congee spot in the neighborhood but this one opens early enough for breakfast when most won’t open till 11am for lunch.(Congee is typically a lunch item in HK.) However, their rude service and crammed space warrant a 4-star rating. So I asked for extra green onions, then later some peanuts. Alright I understand I could’ve asked her all at once but my walnut-sized brain sometimes make me forgetful. So when I asked her the second time, she uttered grudgingly, «You should’ve told me earlier ma’am.» Ha-ha… Okay, sorry mom. That’s right. I’m not sure how much English they know and there’s no English and there’s no menu really. My bf who’s an expat here just points and it works. Pointing and music are both universal language. Also, the restaurant is super crammed so it is not your choice to not eat with strangers at the same table. It’s still pretty common in this type of local restaurants in Hk so you’ll just get used to it if you’re becoming a local. For a classier congee place, try the chain Congee King on Heard Street.
