Had been to Utrecht on one of those bright Sunny days! This is an old Town Castle coverted into a restaurant! It is a chandelier, folded napkins and quite space above. When u walk downstairs through their vaults brewing beer, you come out in the open to the wharfs below by the canals! Totally charming and amazing service!

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA

While the real draws are the setting and beer the food was quite good. Seating on the terrace is first-come-first-served. Through encouragement from the waitress I tried the mussels, and I’m glad I did. Since they are cooked in a white beer, in place of wine, they had quite a lot of flavor. My wife had the chicken with garlic and rosemary, which was also rather good. Overall I felt like we were winning in the price/quality ratio.

Utrecht old town is full of little places along the canals where you can drink a beer and enjoy a meal. We found this one based on nothing much more than the fact that the preponderance of patrons appeared to be Dutch rather than tourists. We had their house-made beer, which we liked enough to order a second round, and since that was so nice we opted to eat here, too. The pot of mussels was lovely, and they even did a credible job with spare ribs. Pricing is fair, too, and the service was friendly.

One of my favourite places in Utrecht. The interior is of course awesome — its a bar in a city castle! Nice beers, which are home-brewed, good food. I especially like the spareribs aaaaand salmon salad with horseradish dressing. Dinner menu is also quite good. And in summer there’s a terrace:)

This is a pub my academic doppelgänger took me for a pre-dinner beer. It was huge, and there’s plenty of locals that head here for a beer, apparently. You know, the types that wear suits, they grab a seat at the bar and order the Oudaen white beer. That’s what we did, though we didn’t wear suits. I mean, post-docs don’t wear suits, right?
So we got ourselves a drink. Man, the Oudaen white beer is potent. I always think I am grateful for living in Europe as I have access to great beer more than when I was living in North America.
So yes, after a drink, which was awesome, we headed out. The service was good too. It became a crowded place moments after we grabbed the last stools on the bar, but they still were able to keep track who drank what.
Yeah, amazing place. Check it out for a drink.

A homemade brewery situated in an old castle in the center of beautiful downtown Brewery with great food and views; seriously what more could you want?
Here’s what to order:
— You more or less are required to have the Oudean white beer. Best beer I’ve had so far in Holland and the trademark of the restaurant.
— For food, I would highly recommend the mussels and bread. Better than what I had in Belgium.

Only really saw the cavernous downstairs area which was a bit cramped and loud. They brew their own beers, which are the only beers they serve. I recommend them.
Upstairs has a larger hall.

If you have not had this Oudaen white beer, homebrewed in the cellar of the castle, then shame on you!
You’re missing out on one of the best experiences you’ll ever have. I absolutely love this beer and even though I’m a professed lightweight when it comes to drinking, and hardly go beyond a second glass, I would for this beer. It’s just the absolute perfect white beer. Jum.
Oh, did I tell you about their bitterballen? No? Order them! They come with proper stone ground mustard and are delicious combined with the above-mentioned beer.
For those of you who prefer quiet over people-watching (or aapjes-kijken as we say in Dutch) the outside terrace is continued down the stairs at the level of the canal in summer. Less bustling, more ambiance. Just don’t fall into the water!

I never ate there but I went several time for a late after dinner drink… yes. out of the bubble (Amsterdam) :)
This place is in an old castle right in the center of Utrecht facing the main canal.
Really a great setting.
They have any kind of drinks but go for the home brewed beer… light, fresh and very very yummy.
The ambiance is quite homey and there is also a big fireplace. Very very friendly and happy atmosphere.
I really like it.

Ich war hier im Februar 2010 im Rahmen eines Geschäftsessen. Das Haus liegt direkt an einer Gracht, mitten in Utrecht.
Im EG gibt es eine Bar/Kneipe, in der auch leckeres Essen serviert wird. Alles ist sehr urig eingerichtet und dennoch modern.
In der Zwischenetage befindet sich ein kleines Theater (wirklich sehr nett eingerichtet), das z.B. für Firmenpräsentationen gemietet werden kann.
In Obergeschoss befindet sich dann das pikfeine Restaurant mit Blick auf dei Grachten und die Stadt.
Das Essen war hervorragend und auch die Weinauswahl wirklich sehr gut. Ärgerlich war, dass wir uns nach dem ersten Schluck des Hausweins für eine ganze Flasche entschieden und das dann «leider nicht mehr möglich» war (obwohl die Flasche frisch aufgemacht wurde). Hierfür ziehe ich einen Stern ab.
Absolut zu empfehlen — eine top Adresse. Jetzt noch ein wenig im Service nachlegen und es werden 5*.
