De Markt

Wir waren an einem Freitagabend da — dementsprechend voll war es. Unserer Meinung nach zu voll um sich wohl zu fühlen weil es deshalb auch sehr laut war.
Zu Essen gibt, bis auf eine Carbonara, nichts was man normalerweise bei einem Standarditaliener bekommt.
Sie Rede ist hier z.B. von einer Pizza mit Gorgonzola, Birnen, Salami und Walnüssen. Alles in allem also eigentlich gut gemacht.

Hip place to go in Utrecht for some interesting combinations of food. I had a raw tuna pizza that was pretty nice but there were a lot of other things on the menu that I would have liked to try out as well.
The place was decorated quite nice and the service was good. It felt quite local and not very touristy for being right in the center.

I have to give De Markt extra points for accomodating 13 people with practically no wait time. All they had to do was put together the tables. It was a bit past 7:30 on a Wednesday, but there were tons of people out on this sunny day, and I was impressed.
I ordered the fried duck with lentils and other vegetables. Duck isn’t very common in the US, so I thought it would be more European. It was quite tasty and chewy, and it reminded me of Peking duck a bit. I did find the lentils to be quite salty, so that is one area of improvement. The restaurant did have quite a variety of tasty foods, and my conference colleagues enjoyed it!

Everything was perfect from starters to main course. didn’t have enough room for desserts though but will definitely come back to try…

Really nice restaurant with great food and drinks. Service was helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed it there.

Restaurant De Markt is one of my favourite places for italian food in Utrecht: it’s contemporary, delicious and just couple of minutes away from home.
Since not so long ago Drieharingstraat became one of the most famous restaurant streets in Utrecht and it’s swarming with different places, but be sure not to miss De Markt. I personally fall in love with almost any place that serves Vitello tonnato with fresh tuna and not the salty greasy tuna sauce. Vitello tonnato in De Markt is my all-​time crush.
The interior is inviting and personeel is welcoming, food is delicious and the check is quite democratic, what more do you need? Be aware though, that sometimes it’s hard to get a table and you might be asked to wait at the bar.

The interior is well designed and looks fashionable with hints of Italian style icons. The menu does not show many options but enough to make a good selection of fish, meat pasta and pizza. I ordered the soft crab tempura as an appetizer which looked nice when it arrived. The taste however was dominated by the fried material of the tempura batter and it was unclear what was inside. For a main course I took a salad with ham. The taste was excellent and the use of small potatoes made a difference. The ingredients were fresh. The two other persons at my table took the meat dishes, lamb and beef, both were excellent. We paid an average of 40 Euro per person for a meal that included appetizer, main dish and coffee. Our waitress looked after us and did a good job which is not always the case in a city where the majority of restaurants employ students as waiters. It is certainly a place to return too.

Must visit for food while in Utrecht. 5*****

This is one of my new favorite restaurants in Utrecht.
It has a fresh look to it from the space to the menu to the décor. They have a patio in front and the back overlooks a garden giving you the illusion that you’re not in the city anymore.
The platters (Antipasti plateau) were HUGE and maybe the best deal in the city. You could share one of these and an appetizer for two people and be satisfied. We over-​ordered and got the main courses, which were smaller plates (thankfully for us) and tasted really good. Prices are fair, just watch out because it adds up :).
