Shabu Shabu

I’m always leery of all you can eat Sushi. It makes you wonder how old the fish is.
Not here. The fish doesn’t stick around very long. The food comes out fast and fresh with some interesting variations. Like melted cheese on your fish. Only in the Netherlands. There are numerous chefs working away for your happiness and they are good.
The variety is endless and tasty. There’s lots more than fish. Beef and Chicken dishes are plentiful and also very good.
For the food you get the price is outstanding.
Don’t be afraid, you’ll love this place.

I did not like this place at all! To be fair, I did not end up eating here so the food may be just fine, but the concept and the service are both sub par. It’s all you can eat but in five minute segments and no drinks are included, they won’t even give you tap water. On top of this the server was down right dismissive and could not hustle me out of their fast enough when I asked any questions, I was happy to leave!

Was in town for a Business trip. I was looking for something a bit different and found Shabu Shabu. I enjoyed the ambiance and found the menu to be both inventive and well balanced with regard to selections. Being from san Francisco, I am fortunate to be exposed to numerous top quality Japanese restaurants. Shabu Shabu held its own with regard to menu & quality. What really impressed me was the level of service I received from my server. I made sure to take note of his name, he was a young man named Baronox. Service was flat out top notch. He made a number of helpful menu suggestions and his recommendations were right on. He was friendly, without going over the top, attentive even when he was busy with other tables, but never in a «hovering» manner. Being from out of town, his assistance and attention to detail were greatly appreciated. I don’t think I was the only table that was pleased with his service, as I noticed a young couple that were taking photos of his service… A top compliment indeed. He reflects well on this restaurant, & I will be back in for sure before I head back to the States on Monday.

Food is actually pretty good, it’s the service that made me downgrade the rating. I was joining a small group a little late and the waiter and waitress only told me where to sit, but didn’t offer me something to drink. Weird.
Also, for the price is kinda expensive.

Im Shabu Shabu in Rotterdam gibt es ein etwas anderes All-​you-​can-​eat Menü als man es vielleicht von vielen ähnlichen japanischen Restaurants in Deutschland kennt. Hier bekommt man am Anfang einen Zettel, sowie einen Stift und eine kleine Karte. Geordert wird in mehreren Runden, pro Runde darf pro Person 5 Speisen geordert werden. Eine Gruppe darf soweit ich dass jetzt verstanden habe maximal 2 Stunden bleiben, Runden kann es, wie der Name des Menüs bereits andeutet, beliebig viele geben.
Wir waren in einer Gruppe (7 Personen) gegen Abend (etwa kurz nach 8 Uhr). Das Lokal war zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits ziemlich voll, entsprechend war dann auch die Lautstärke. Auch nach einiger Zeit hat sich das kaum gebessert, man musste fast schreien bzw. ziemlich laut reden um sich mit seinen Tischnachbarn unterhalten zu können. An sich war das Sushi und die warmen Speisen (unter anderem Suppe, Fleisch) in Ordnung. Nur haben die verschiedenen Speisen irgendwie fast alle gleich geschmeckt. Zu den Fleischgerichten schien es immer die selbe, leicht süßlich schmeckende Soße zu geben, der Geschmack war dann entsprechend.
Das Restaurant ist vergleichsweise groß und an sich ist die Einrichtung passend. Eine gemütliche Atmosphäre kam aber wegen des Lärms leider nicht auf. Die Toiletten waren sauber und die Bedienung allgemein freundlich, nur ging im Laufe des Abends schon einmal die ein oder andere Bestellung unter (so brauchte es drei Anläufe bis ich endlich mein Getränk bekommen konnte).
Fazt: In Ordnung. Trotzdem kann ich die Beliebtheit dieses Restaurants (das übrigens vornehmlich von jungen Leute (d.h. im Bereich 20 – 30) frequentiert wird), nicht verstehen.
