Schipper Patat

It is remarkable that the ugliest place in Rotterdam houses also one of the best fine dining spots. Walking across Schouwburgplein you will find the Friturologic Institute: Familie Schipper.
Schipper is probably the most popular address for snackoholics in the Rotterdam area. Especially at lunchtime on Fridays a real procession of frites lovers files by. Do not dare to call these frites, fries or chips. That is the muck they are selling at McD. and Burger K. We are talking about freshly fried, finely sliced, crispy potatoes served in rich portions with a dazzling topping of mayonnaise. One does not need more to reach heaven.
Besides their golden brown pièce de résistance, Schipper is selling a collection of great snacks which probably you cannot find beyond the Dutch borders. The editors highly recommend the Christmas tree like cheese soufflé, homemade meatballs and especially the notorious bamirol. Although it must be said that the frikandel and the bratwurst cannot be ignored either.
In short, Schipper stands for 34 years of snack history and is one of the great examples of the best of Rotterdam street food. They are waiting for you from Tuesdays till Sundays at the Schouwburgplein.
