After reading an average review that was given to this place, I find it necessary that I write a review about this place. By all means, I’m not a coffee critic. Nor am I a coffee specialist. Nevertheless, I have visited hundreds, literally hundreds, of coffee shops across the globe. I love coffee houses. Whenever I travel, I always try to find all the local«best» coffee houses. Two crucial things about an excellent coffee house: the quality of their coffee and the Space/environment. While the quality of the coffee drinks is important, only a few percentage of the population in the world can really tell the difference among the best brewed coffees. So it really comes down to personal preference and the SPACE/ENVIRONMENT. NOCNOC has a very urban, earthy décor that I find comfortable. It is not cozy but it is comfortable. Great for gatherings and working. I am personally a big fan of wooden furnitures and flooring. So this coffeehouse hit a perfect spot in my taste. Many may disagree with me, the coffee culture in the Netherlands is barely in existence. Most the great roasters and coffeehouses have only developed roughly in the last 2 years. While the country itself has dealt with coffee a lot longer, the refinement in this particular culture has just started. Finally, people care and are willing to pay more for premium coffee. Now we can choose whether to have South American origin or African origin coffee. Just 5 years ago, Coffee Company was the standard. Now many knows their coffee is just alright. And excellent coffee houses have become more accessible for everyone. Some of my most favorites are Screaming Beans are Man met Bril. But they both lack a bit on the 2nd aspect of a perfect coffeehouse. Most coffee houses with great space don’t serve good coffee. And the few that serve excellent coffee don’t really have the place that makes me want to sit longer than necessary. NOCNOC is one of the few coffee hipster cafes in the Netherlands that serve premium coffee and they have a wonderful environment that makes me want to hang out there. I can bring my computer here and do some work while enjoying their fine coffee and other delicious drinks/snacks. I highly recommend this coffee spot. They open later than most other coffee houses(because they also serve wine in the evening). And their menu is easy to understand. After coming back from a long trip visiting so many great coffeehouses abroad, the first coffeehouse I wanted to visit once I’m back in Rotterdam was NOCNOC.
