Holy Smoke

Before I start my rant, I just want to point out that you will most likely enjoy this restaurant. Many people do… so it seems. Holy Smoke seems pack most of the time. It was packed when I visited.
I enjoyed my meal when I visited this café today. The service was friendly and speedy which is a big deal especially when you live in NL. LOL
The name of the café HOLY SMOKE can be quite deceiving in my opinion. I was really hoping it would be a BBQ smoke house. However, they don’t smoke any of their meats. They should consider smoking their meat which will put them apart from the rest of the burger joints in Rotterdam. As of now, they are not bad at all. I find them slightly above average. The pork belly my friend ordered was so so. It was not bad but my friend didn’t find anything special with it. In the other hand, the poussin another friend ordered was delicious according to him.
Overall, HOLY SMOKE tries to capture the spirit of Southern American BBQ smokehouse dinner vibe. In many ways, they succeed. It reminds me a bit of the good old souther smokehouse joint you’d find in the southern states of US but much more hip and chic. It is just the flavor is lacking quite a bit.
Please, if you consider opening another burger or bbq joint in Rotterdam, either smoke your meat or do something creative with your meat. :-)
