A typical all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant which offers allright quality given the reasonable price. The downside of keeping the price as low as possible is that service goes down. To optimize profits, all tables are used twice an evening and all available space is used for tables. This includes the cellar where you sit right next to the toilets. We did not accept that table, and I can’t imagine that anyone would be happy to sit there. Given the concept of all-you-can-eat you pretty much get what you can expect, but the level of service could be much better.

Serve was slow. Sushi wasn’t fresh and even their Wasabi was stale! Took us 1 hour and a half to get the first order.

Good all you can eat sushi– table side service. It’s a bit crowded and they did mess a few of my orders up, but still decent sushi. Sashimi was very fresh tasting, but had to pay extra for that. Good place if you need a sushi fix. Solid three star. I do recommend.

A companion I haven’t seen for a while who lives in Haarlem suggested that we have dinner here when I visited the city. So he arranged a reservation, and at the agreed-upon time, we were seated. This place isn’t your traditional sushi restaurant. It’s an all-you-can-eat sushi and grill restaurant, which is less Japanese and more Asian(as a conglomerate). That being said, the food they serve is actually edible, as opposed to other AYCE restaurants out there, who sacrifice quality for quantity. Here, the table is given a piece of paper which lists every item on the menu. Every person can order at most five things per round, and there are five rounds available. Don’t worry, this is all you can eat, and yes, we only used 2 rounds, so that is more than enough indeed. My previous experiences with AYCE restaurants is that the food’s quality is so low I am disgusted, but this one is actually passable. They even have grilled eel sushi, which was rather unexpected and tasty. I am only rating this as 3 stars simply because I am probably a purist when it comes to Japanese food: having lived in Japan for more than 4 years, I know what good Japanese food is like, and I prefer that version than this one. While the food here has good quality, I know that Japanese food can be better. I normally don’t go to AYCE restaurants, so I will probably go back here only when my companion insists.

Sumo restaurant is one of the all you can eat concepts. The restaurant in Haarlem is part of the chain. Just after arrival we were lead to a small and cosy room downstairs. The room is quite cosy, however very dark, especially if you need to read small and write down your selection. Just at the very begining you get a good explanation of the whole concept and you can start working on your selection of food… I am a great fun of sushi and fish and it was of great quality… well prepared rice, nice fresh fish, good sushi — not too hard, with not too much rice, just perfect. My husband is a big fun of grill and teppanyaki part and he left a bit dissapointed. Meat and sauces are not as good as in other comparable establishment. All in all it is a great all you can eat concept, especially if you go for a sushi selection.
