Disappointed. I hadn’t been to an Argentinian steakhouse in a while, and was looking forward to sinking my teeth into my favorite cut: — Bife de Chorizo. First the good. Restaurant is very well located in downtown Eindhoven. Ambiance is nice for a pleasant dinner experience, and the décor is a propos to a gaucho theme. The staff is friendly and I enjoyed a nice glass of rich, deep Malbec. Their side dishes were fresh and well prepared, and their chimichurri recipe was tasty. However, the bottom line is you go to a place like this for the steak, and unfortunately, here’s where Gauchos falls short. First off, the chef needs a lesson in meat cooking. I ordered my steak medium, and I was brought a seared, nearly rare steak… Still cool and raw in some areas. Chef also applies no seasoning, thus steak arrives bland(another lesson in meat grilling needed). Finally, this ain’t a Bife de chorizo cut; the consistency, taste and leanness of the meat just wasn’t right. It seems they are trying to pass a tip sirloin or ribeye for Bife… no! Finally, I paid nearly 40 euro for my meal. Not very good value considering you aren’t getting the real deal.

It’s tough to find a good cut of beef here in the Netherlands. Gauchos does a nice job at preparing traditional cuts of Argentinian beef that aren’t tough and questionable as most beef is in the Netherlands. I enjoyed my rib-eye at Gauchos, perfectly prepared and tender. The sautéed spinach was delicious. Careful with Asparagus though, it’s served with a heap of mayonnaise which I was not a fan of. All in all, good service, great steaks and definitely does the job for satisfying the craving for good steak. Being from the US, this is a suitable option for having a traditional steak.

Ich war mittlerweile dreimal dort mit Kollegen essen. Nettes Ambiente, die Bedienungen mal gut, mal ein wenig langsam. Was mir unangenehm aufgefallen war, ist die Akustik. Der — jedes mal gut besuchte — Laden ist sehr laut. Von mir sehr zu empfehlen: Die Spare-Ribs — «all you can eat» für 18 Euro. Gut gegrilled mit leckerer Soße. Nur die Beilagen werden extra berechnet.
