Situated on the Oude Delft in the shadow of the Oude Jan, this coffeehouse is among the most popular of Delft. I’ve been here several times in different seasons and the quality and service is consistent. In the warmer months you can sit outside on the terrace boat and enjoy a view of the Oude Jan and gracht. When it gets colder there is ample room inside to enjoy something to eat or drink. Although somewhat limited in choice compared to other coffee places, I like their coffee and coffee specials and would recommend to anyone visiting Delft.

Seriously one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in my LIFE. If I’m ever in Delft again, I will make sure to visit Stads-Koffyhuis again — more than once.

Service tres aimable.

Wow. Really good reviews here for a reason! Was planning on coming here anyway, but the free coffee from my museum ticket was an added touch. I got the Adam’s sandwich, if I remember correctly and it was filling and tasty. I thought it was a small place until I went to the restroom. This place just kept opening up into more rooms! I have a feeling this would be my regular haunt if I lived in the area.

Ducked in here to avoid the rain after walking through the old church. Great vibe. i imagine on a warmer summer day a table on the boat out front would be great. There is a large variety of seating and the place is huge.

We only stopped in here because admission to the Museum Prinsenhof came with coupons for free coffee/tea, but it ended up being one of the highlights of our visit to Delft. The café is a nice, quiet little spot in the city, and the wait staff were all friendly and polite. As we were sitting down anyway, we figured we may as well order something for lunch(obviously this is exactly what they were hoping for with those free coupons). Their sandwiches were self-proclaimed as being the best in Holland, so obviously we had to put that claim to the test. I ordered the«Broodje ‘Alex’ keus,»(we share a name, I felt obligated) and it was phenomenal. The garlic bread that it was served on was crisp and tasty, but the flavor was light enough that it didn’t overpower the rest of the sandwich. And how could it? Roast beef, a soft cheese, and mandarin slices, with a cup of some sort of sweet and savory dressing on the side which I poured over the top of it. Simply put, it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had — and at the price, I was honestly tempted to order a second. My girlfriend ordered a vegetarian sandwich(I can’t remember which one, exactly) and she felt similarly. The only complaint I have is that the coffee was a little more bitter than I usually like it, but that’s really not anyone’s fault at all. Especially because it was free with the coupon. Bottom line: If you’re looking for a place to grab a quick lunch in Delft, this is where you want to be. My girlfriend and I both agree that their sandwiches live up to the hype — if you’re into roast beef, definitely order the Alex. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the prices were remarkably reasonable as well. If you throw in a couple of drink coupons from the museum, Stads-Koffyhuis offers one of the best deals for a cheap and tasty lunch in all of Delft. Five stars, and I highly recommend it.

Me and my husband found this place by accident, walking around. So we tried some sweets for teatime. We ordered apple pie and chocolate cake with some tea and coffee. Both of them were pretty good. But what we didn’t know was that they have high tea! If we didn’t have lunch, we could have done that!!! But by asking the waiter about all of those trophies above the casher and everywhere in the restaurant, we found out that they are the champions of Holland sandwich contest year after year! I wish I was there for lunch time and tasted their organic award winning sandwiches!!! People, go there for your lunch time and try their sandwiches!(cons: They don’t bake their bread there but it’s coming from local bakery.) Their stuff members are very friendly and the interior is so cute! Bathroom is one of the cutest I’ve ever seen. It’s covered with broken Delft ceramics! I would totally going back to Stads if I have a chance to go to Delft someday again.

I’ve been to Stads three times, so I think I’ve given it a fair chance. I do not think the food here is anything special — the place is just popular because there is nothing else like it in Delft. I’ve ordered the pancakes here a few times and although they tasted fine, one of the times I received a packaged butter plopped in the middle of my pancake and I could tell it had previously been on another plate because it had old peppers stuck to it(yuck). The service here is also really lacking; on one of our visits we had to wait to place an order for over 45 minutes, so we got the attention of our waitress — she gruffly said that she would come take our order when SHE was ready. All in all, not very good but pretty popular, so do not expect to be in and out of here quickly.

Stads-Koffyhuis was recommended by our hotel, but we didn’t get there until later in the week of our visit. The first time was for dinner with a group of five. We were promptly seated and given English menus. The menu has a good variety, but is more of a casual style for dinner. My wife and I had the Farmer’s Burger, which was made with organically-raised beef and came on a tasty roll with lettuce, tomato, long thin pickles, bacon and a sort of Russian Dressing. It was accompanied by spicy potato wedges. Other than the beef being salted, which seems to be common, it was delicious. Others at our table had the Oude Delft burger, with a fried egg, a chicken sandwich, and a seafood salad. Everyone liked what they got. My wife and I also had the Delft VOC Stout, a excellent dark beer. For dessert, all of us had the warm apple pie with cinnamon ice cream and we all loved it. My wife and I returned for lunch the next day and had sandwiches. I had the«Alex’s Choice», thin, rare and tender roast beef with cheese and tangerines(!) on a cornmeal roll. My wife had a vegetarian sandwich with lettuce, cheese, spicy mustard and an apple syrup. It too was very good, and we both had another VOC Stout beer. For dessert we chose the«seasonal pastrie» which was a strawberry pie, with a strawberry cream filling in a small pie crust with fresh strawberries on top. It was very good, but I liked the apple pie better. They also had a wide variety of «pancakes» on the menu, with choices of sweet or savory toppings. Four things of note — your server will leave a card on the table that has a barcode. This serves as your bill — take it to the front register when you want to pay. Secondly, while credit cards are accepted, only the European style with«chip and PIN» can be used. I found this to be the case at almost every restaurant in Delft. Third, while their web site has a menu online, I found some of the items there unavailable and others were more expensive than the online menu lists. Last, there is a tourist booklet you can get at hotels or at the tourist info center that has a coupon for a free coffee at Stads-Koffyhuis.

A really lovely place to visit if you’re spending some time in Delft. After a visit to William of Orange’s old residence, our tickets gave us a free coffee at this little place just down the street. It has a nice barge patio to enjoy in nice weather and serves up some traditional Dutch fare, namely, apple cake. Delicious!
