Blooming

Das ist schon unser zweiter Aufenthalt hier. Dieses Hotel ist mit schwedischer Kühle schön ruhig eingerichtet. Der absolute plus Punkt ist die Lage: direkt aus der Tür raus ist man schon in dem Dünen-​Wald. Etwas ganz besonders Schönes und ein Genuss im denaturalisierten Holland ein Stück echte Natur zu finden. In der Lobby gibts Wasser und Kaffee kann man ruhig sitzen und auch ein Bierchen zu sich nehmen. Das Schwimmbad ist prima. Schade das man nirgendwo sich hinsetzen kann oder Handtücher aufhängen könnte. Zb wenn die Kinder schwimmen man daneben sitzen kann und ein Buch lesen könnte. Die Sauna verpflichtend mit Badekleidung. Naja … Finnen würden nur den Kopf schütteln. In Deutschland würde man es karg nennen.
Das Restaurant gibt sich Mühe. Wirklich aufmerksame und super freundliche fachkundige Bedienung. Das Essen ist weniger Top auch wenn der Koch alles versucht zu veredeln. Less is more wäre vielleicht der erste Schritt in eine bessere Richtung. Einfach einen guten Fisch ohne Truffelkraäutertrallalakruste z.B. Aber es gibt ein Kinder-​menü mit auch durchaus respektablem Essen. Und da punktet das ganze Hotel: Familienfreundlich 10 Pkte.
Frühstück sehr reichhaltig und üppig. Frisch und lecker.
Also, wenn der Chefkoch sich auf ein etwas besseres Niveau begibt und Schwimmbad /​Sauna noch irgendwie upgraden in Komfort und praktischer Gemütlichkeit kriegt Blooming glatt 5Sternchen von mir .Oder 6 wegen der Natur…

Blooming is set in a beautiful location in the forest. It’s a nice 25 minute walk into town. The area outside the hotel is so peaceful and quiet. It’s lovely to hear the birds and the breeze outside your window. However, it may be hard to hear over the sound of the other guests.
Soundproofing in the hallways is non-​existent so when your neighbors decide to let their children run up and down the halls in the morning it will be the first thing you hear. I’ve stayed twice and it happened both times.
The pool is beautiful at first glance but it doesn’t seem to be particularly clean and it tends to be overrun by these same children. Perhaps Blooming should consider creating some child-​free pool hours. The pool and sauna both have very odd opening hours. The pool is closed for several hours every afternoon and the sauna isn’t available until after 7 in the evening.
Our room was nice enough but the shower didn’t drain properly and I found the pillows to be incredibly uncomfortable. They are too wide and flat. I wouldn’t have been so bothered expect that they give you a Blooming newsletter at breakfast which announces that Blooming’s beds are supposed to be the best in the world. Really makes me wonder what they were basing that on.
The newsletter also tells you to check out before breakfast to avoid massive queues. I find it highly irritating that they would rather tell guests to leave early than actually deal with the problem of long checkout queues. Most other hotels slide the bill under your door so that you can just drop the key on your way out rather than waiting in line.
Overall, Blooming is worth visiting for the location. It isn’t super expensive and there aren’t a lot of other nice hotel options in Bergen. Just don’t expect too much.

Fantastic location in Bergen. Be warned though you are not likely to walk downtown from here :) but can easily cycle
Blooming rescued me after an unfortunate stay in Haarlem with a friendly staff and exceptional vibe. Plenty of parking in a wooded setting. Unique reception/​café area, great bar and amazing restaurant (as pictures show).
Only «complaint» is room is exceptionally small. Fine for a couple nights stay but if you are looking for a comparable spot nearby I’d head to the Merlet.
