Vondeltuin

I love this place for lunch on a sunny day! Fast service even on a crowded terrace (and having to order at the till, somehow they nonetheless always manage to keep track of orders). Food is delicious, serving sizes are big, prices are good (especially for being inside Vondelpark!), drinks are cold… Super gezellig little outdoor garden!

This is a café at the Amstelveenseweg entrance to the Vondelpark. Sometimes during the day it is overrun with children (there is a playground next door, so I see why). There are nice sun lounger chairs and at night they have heat lamps and blankets. The small indoor part has a fireplace.

Always great for sunny days. Self service ordering but the order comes quite quickly. Lovely terrace area.

I went here with a moms meetup group, and it was a great place for a gathering with small children. Almost all the seating is outside, with a small ‘house’ that contains the bar and kitchen a little bit of indoor seating. The outdoor seating is mostly covered by umbrellas though, so we were able to hang out in the fresh air even though it was raining. There is a sand play lot connected to the seating area, so you can watch your kids play with other kids while sitting at some of the tables. Service was the usual Dutch standard — you see the waitress once when you sit down and never again, so it was easy to hang out for hours while only having one drink.
I had the caprese salad, which didn’t come with basil leaves, only pesto and some rugula leaves, and herb bread. It was filling and not too bad considering it didn’t come with basil. The cappuccino was alright. They also serve a wide selection of alcohol. Overall the atmosphere and kid-​friendliness here is a bigger draw than the food.

Great café next door to the playground. Prices on food are good but the beer-​prices are a little steep. Perfect for families with toddlers.
