This wonderful small steakhouse(probably seats 30 people) gets 5 stars for the food and ambiance. Great gin and tonic selection, great meats(ribs were exceptional) and fresh sides. The kitchen is almost boutiquey with great presentation(including the hipster looking chefs). Knocking off a star because the service was super slow and had to be flagged down + a friend of ours got the smallest old fashioned cocktail we’d ever seen(off menu). Definitely worth a visit for a nice dinner.

My BF and I recently checked out this newly opened restaurant on a recent vacation to Amsterdam. We found this place while strolling through the neighborhood and its inviting candles and brightly lit atmosphere called us in. We sat at the bar since we didn’t have a reservation and didn’t want to wait for a table. This was a good choice as we appreciated the attentive service of all of the wait staff there. We both ordered the rib eye steak meal with fries. Although flavorful, the meat was a bit fatty to our liking. We appreciated the presentation on the wooden platter as it was different and invited sharing. The chocolate dessert was tasty and a good ending to our meal. Although we would probably give the restaurant a 3.5 for food, the service helped to bump up our overall rating. Venus and Adonis has made a good start and we would expect that they would have a successful future!

Located on the Prinsengracht with a nice newly done interior that’s warm and inviting, they also have tables outside for you to have your meal. I ordered one of the signature dishes, the venus surf and turf which consisted of a filet of beef and one large prawn. My companion had the Adonis steak. The steak appeared to be a filet mignon, a tender juicy cut. It was cooked medium rare. It was a nice tender steak. My steak knife wasn’t so sharp so it was good the meat was tender. The meat, both mine and my companion’s, was served on a wooden platter. I was then given a plate onto which I was to transfer my steak and prawn. It was awkward. I ordered a baked potato which was also served on a wooden platter. The potato came with a small dollop of sour cream on it. I later transferred it to my plate to make eating it easier. In addition I had a gin and tonic. I enjoyed the steak. The prawn was also flavorful. The baked potato was also good. The house gin used is Tanqueray. They serve you the gin already poured into the glass then give you a bottle of tonic water to add to it completing your drink. It was refreshingly good. While the location, the décor and the exterior were nice I wasn’t impressed with the food nor the presentation of it. It seemed like a new restaurant just learning how to operate. Our server was willing to answer questions or find out answers to the questions she couldn’t answer. She and the rest of the staff were pleasant. It was an okay experience not outstanding. I’ll check them out again in a few months. They’re also dog friendly.

Just amazing. Passed by a few times in the first days when they were opening, looked good. Had a friend come visit and it was a good occasion to try the place. Totally great — food was perfect. I don’t want to go into the ‘food writing’ details on each dish, but just know that every course we ordered was somewhere between a 9.5÷10−10÷10 in rating — this includes the steak, the salmon, the lobster bisque, prawns(very large!), & salads. Really really great :)
