I stopped through here for a quick carrot, apple and ginger juice. Browsed at the menu and noticed they have Gluten-free sandwiches, so I will definitely be back at another moment to try their sandwiches out. Service seems friendly and fast.

Great place for soup and lunch. Chickpea soup and Thai lentils are amazing and will leave you full. Thumbs up for the smiling service too.

Been meaning to write about my experience this past November, but never got to it! Anyway, it was a cozy spot to get some food and relax on my Amsterdam walking adventure. I got the green bean soup and bread w/some cheese balls, apparently a typical Dutch thing and it was delish. Huuuuge portion, too! Also, the owner or manager there was super kind and helpful, she let me, a lost frozen tourist, to plug in a dead iphone to her own personal charger behind the counter. Love these people! Go visit, wont be disappointed.

Lovely café, friendly service, quite nice Dutch pea soup. Quaint views of the canals. Simple, not over the top café.

Apple pie and cappuccino, both delicious. Friendly staff… Two other people had sandwiches and they were huge! They both said they were great sandwiches

So far, I’ve eaten at both Toos & Roos venues in Amsterdam and I have to say that both are equally delicious. The staff there are always polite and ready to take your order and help you out. The second best thing(after the food, of course) about those two lunch cafes is the location: I the heart of Amsterdam. My only regret is that those places are not open throughout the whole day and don’t serve dinner. If they did, it certainly be there!

Toos & Roos on the Herengracht. This is a very tiny place to have lunch or brunch. You can sit outside or in. I ordered an omelet and got the ravioli. Well I pointed at what I wanted on the menu which could have been the ravioli. I dunno. The service was quick and friendly and the ravioli wasn’t all that bad.

Preis-Leistung perfekt. Note 1+

I had passed through this spot quite some times but never set foot in. Glad that I decided to get brunch here recently. The interior is really tiny and I am not sure if they do reservations, but be prepared to either wait, sit out in the cold, or get a cramped up table inside. I managed that last availability. The service is really cool and personal. I even managed to get my Dutch practice in. The food and drinks come out quick and with a smile. We ordered bowl of the pumpkin soup and a tomato mozzarella open face sandwich. The soup was delicious, low on salt but a bit creamy and had s spiced flavor. It came with exactly 2 pieces of brown bread on the side. The mozzarella sandwich was nothing special. The bread could have been better. About the cappuccino — the froth had a really ‘milky’ flavor to it — the kind you get from farm fresh milk. I really liked the cappuccino. The highlight of the small meal was the carrot cake In the end. It did not have any icing and was just a triangle with sprinkled ground sugar on top. It was fresh and warm, I guess reheated. I wish they had more ‘brunchy’ things on the menu, but a soup or sandwich will fill you up.

Cute little place to stop for a quick bite. Had an open face sandwich with mozzarella, tomato, and some greens. Very good! My order took a while to be brought out so they brought me a free shot of their soup of the day, it was awesome! Not too expensive, good place to pop in and has outdoor seating which was great!

Needed to find a place with gluten free options and stumbled upon this place. Sandwich was okay. You’d save more money buying your own products at Markt or another grocery store and making your own sandwich which would probably be ten times better. Staff was also okay– perhaps it was a barrier but I’ve been to numerous places in Amsterdam which had plenty of warm and friendly staff.

A decent place to grab a bite while in the 9 Streets. Cramped for sure, or cozy, however you want to call it. I had a late lunch here on what might have been the warmest afternoon Amsterdam will see all year. I ordered the smoked salmon salad which was top-knotch. The portion was huge, but since I had yet to eat that day, I devoured it. The ingredients were extremely fresh, the tomatoes tasted like tomatoes! And the orange juice was freshly squeezed, which seems to be a rarity in the States.

Fresh food in a cozy(very cozy) setting. I had a club sammie: thin slices of chicken(packaged??), some greens, tomato slices and undercooked bacon. The best part of this sammie was the the three layers of thickly cut bread – very tasty. A small serving of potato chips came on the side. My wife had the spinach quiche which ostensibly had no eggs in the dish. She thought it was okay, but liked the side of warm vegetable salad a little better. The soups looked inviting, and may have been a better call on this wet and cold day. Limited menu here and the seating is very tight(upstairs/downstairs). Bench seating was more comfortable than the small metal chairs. All in all, this place reminded me of the kind of restaurant some girlfriends might go for lunch or an afternoon snack. I would not bring the husband or boyfriends here, because it lacks what I would consider«hardy» fare… Cheers! RS

A friend and I popped into this restaurant while roaming around Amsterdam on a Friday afternoon. It was quite packed, so we figured it must be good(but was a bit worried about getting a table); however, we were able to snatch up the last one! We ordered the Thai Lentil Soup and the smoked chicken sandwich with guacamole, bacon and lettuce. We went to order tap water as well, but were told they do not have tap water. We weren’t thirsty, so we just didn’t order any drinks. Personally, I’m not sure how you don’t provide tap water to your patrons, but maybe that’s just me. That would have led to me give this place four stars, but then the food arrived. The soup was fabulous! It had a nice curry flavour to it(although it was brothy, not creamy). The lentils helped make the soup very filling. As a heads up to all you vegetarians out there, ALL their soups are vegetarian. The soup also came with amazingly warm and soft gluten free bread. The sandwich was open faced, and had good flavour. It used streaky bacon, and not bacon like the rashers used in the UK and Ireland. Both dishes were fab! I think the waitress must have heard us deliberating over whether or not to get the pumpkin or lentil soup, because she even gave us a little taster of the pumpkin soup with the sandwich. Our food alone was impressive enough to for me to forgive the not having tap water and give this place five stars. We originally split these two dishes as we were eating quite late and dinner reservations later, but i’m also glad we split because the soup portion was HUGE. All in all, great lunch spot, great value, and high quality & tasty food. Plus, can’t beat the free wifi when you’re travelling abroad!

Bravo! LULU in Amsterdam 03/02/2014

Just from the name you know this place is going to be cute! It’s easily missed but we saw these GIGANTIC fresh carrots in a delivery crate outside their door, which drew our curiosity. I ordered a squash soup with star anise and a carrot juice with ginger. The soup was fantastic, but much larger than I expected – enough for two people. Be careful when you ask for ginger though, you might want to let them know just a bit. As much as I love ginger, I think it almost burned a hole in my throat… Would definitely come back to try other items. A great lunch spot and good for vegetarians.
