very stressed waiter/boss. Old bread instead of fresh bread, a pumpkin soup that did not taste like pumpkin and a spinache quiche that was warmed up in the microwave. If they don’t change something then don’t bother to go there

All the reviews get it bang on — fast and friendly service with really good food. I just wish that they weren’t so cramped, a feature of nearly all the great brunch spots in the city, like its some sort of requirement to be labeled a great brunch spot. The menu has options for all levels of hunger — just a croissant, all the way to an enormous ravioli platter. I had freshly squeezed grapefruit juice as my drink, along with a bottle of water. Pity I wasn’t offered tap water with my brunch. For my brunch(it was 2PM), I went with the hummus and aubergine open face sandwich on gluten-free bread. It came with a little bit of salad leaves on the side and a chutney vessel sized potion of soup. I asked if I could try the chickpea soup and was gladly offered it as a substitute for the staple pumpkin offering. They seemed to be out of the finer dessert stuff, but did have brownies and carrot cake on offer. I decided to skip those. As mentioned before, the place is very cramped — you cannot even pay the bill without blocking someone from climbing down the stairs from the upper seating. All in all, a wonderful, and not so expensive place to get brunch.

Tombé par hasard sur ce petit snack où nous avons été agréablement surpris par la qualité des plats et l’amabilité du service. Il y a de quoi manger et même les jus de fruit méritent le détour.

This little cute and small restaurant in the centre of Amsterdam is perfect for a catch up with a friend while enjoying a sandwich. I normally order the chicken sandwich or the pumpkin soup. They are the self proclaimed, best soup restaurant in Amsterdam, and in all fairness their soups are very good, not sure If I could say the best in Amsterdam but definitely worth trying them. When it’s sunny they have a handful of tables outside so you can have your sandwich or coffee with a canal view. As the place is pretty small sometimes it does feel a bit cramped but it adds to the gezellingness of the experience!

Really cute little place to stop in for a sandwich. I got the salmon sandwich and got to taste the mozzarella and tomato one as well. They were both huge and delicious! Filled us up but still felt great after!

Do yourself a favor and order the chick pea soup… so divine I can’t even deal!!! Started with the soup then added a roasted chicken sandwich(with avocado and bacon) and an eggplant sandwich. The chicken sandwich was passable but I need a moment for the eggplant/hummus sandwich on gluten free bread… it was so delicious!!! I’m already craving it again. It was perfection, squared.

I cannot understand why many people describe this place as one of the«best brunch places in Amsterdam». It’s an OK place with OK food and OK prices. The service although is the worst i ever experienced in my life and let me explain you why. I arrive at the place around 13pm and there is a table for four available(which was actually two tables with 4 chairs). I ask the manager if I can seat there as I was also expecting 2 more friends(so in total we would be 3) he replies with a very negative attitude«yes». 5 Minutes later I already feel the pressure that my friends need to come on time either wise the manager will probably kick me out of that place and give the table to someone else. THANKGOD one of my friends arrive. Our third friend is running late therefore we decide to order. Just about to order the manager ask us, «is anyone else joining your table?» and we reply positively and also explaining him that our friend will be joining us in a few minutes. His reaction? again this same negative face and attitude. Coffee and drinks arrive but our friend still not here, 2 customers enter the restaurant, the manager seats them on to our table, and he is like«if your friend arrives I will move you on to another table». The manager didn’t gave us the option to say yes or no. GUESSWHAT!!! our friend arrive and there was no place for him to seat with us. We even try to squeeze but nothing. We asked the manager if he can find us another place, and with this negative attitude he replied«I am sorry we are fully now). As you can imagine me and my first friend eat very quickly while our friend was WAITINGFORUSOUTSIDE.

Really wonderful service, soup, bread, and sandwich. This place is a gem! definitely go here if you want some good food. And if you aren’t sure about a kind of soup, ask to try a tiny bit!

When I recently spotted Toos & Roos in the Berenstraat I thought they had moved. But it turned out that they’ve secretly opened a second location. I really like the one at Herengracht, it’s neat and cozy. The new one is also nicely decorated. I have to admit that I was quite disappointed by the presentation of the goats cheese sandwich that I had ordered. It’s probably the most boring looking one that I got in Amsterdam so far. So what’s special about this place? The bread they use is fantastic — perfect texture with a crunchy crust. Now that’s what I call ambachtelijk. With your broodje you get a small cup of delicious soup as an amuse. You can of course also order a menu soup. And, same like in their Herengracht location the service is very quick, friendly and attentive. It’s the small things that make a difference. And although I know that I’m being manipulated I like the personal little note they leave on the check to make you want to give them a good rating.
