Student Verhuis Service

If you want your furniture destroyed call these guys. What a horrible experience.
We hired Student Versus Service on March 2016. I am not the kind of person who wants to have to watch everything a professional does — thats why I hired the movers. To my surprise, the day after the move, I was going through my stacked furniture and what I saw was a nightmare. Almost all of my furniture was severely damaged during the move. One bed was incorrectly assembled and I had to redo the work I paid for.

Moreover, during the move, they disappeared for lunch for over an hour and 20 min and I was waiting around for them with no idea what happened to my stuff. When they came back, they wanted to charge me for that time!!!
One of the movers in the van was listening music in high volume on a Easter Sunday morning! The Police was called by the neighbours!
I contacted customer support and initially they said they wanted to solve this properly with me. Then, they started to get defensive, throwing at me their terms and conditions, saying that the furniture was not provided in a worthy manner for the move, and that assembling is the customer responsibility and any damage report has to be done during the move.
I will never use these guys again. I was completely ripped off.

From what we’ve seen the least expensive of the moving companies. Good if you can also help them out with the move, then it goes faster and costs less. We used 2 of their lifts over the course of a week moving. One lift was electric and the other gas and blocked the entire street but that’s ok… they worked fast and best way to get furniture to the 3^rd floor apartment in Amsterdam. Cash to driver or PIN so your choice.

Creativity in today’s high tech, high pressure society, is rarely given the appreciation it deserves, for this reason I’ve decided to write a review of the student verhuis service. As a writer I respect creativity, and I certainly experienced this when dealing with the «students» that work for them.
I have never heard so many eloquent explanations as to why expensive furniture that had been moved at least twice before without any problem (including across europe) suddenly no longer fitted together properly once they got their hands on it.
«This happens with furniture from Ikea» Me. «no it’s not from Ikea, it’s from Villa Arena.
«The wood of the wardrobe is cheap wood» Me surprised. «That’s strange as I had it custom built in Germany, it cost over two thousand euros.
The guys that work for them are pleasant enough chaps, but incredibly unprofessional. I’d specifically requested that furniture needed to be disassembled and rebuilt in my new place. They arrived prepared «do you have a plastic bag where we can put the screws?»
I have pretty expensive floor standing speakers, which need to be handled carefully. In spite of me clearly giving them instructions, they still managed to damage the tweeters of my speakers.
A couple of days later, in my old apartment I found a bag with more screws that they’d forgotten to take with them. Parts of a wardrobe, including the clothes rail, which I would say is the most essential component of the bloody thing.
If you want boxes shifted, they are fine. On the other hand, if you need furniture put back together properly, my advice is to use a proper moving company.
On a positive note, I complained to the manager of this company about the sloppy job his guys did putting my furniture back together. They did then send someone else to resolve the problems free of charge. While this was nice to have, I’d have preferred it if they had done a proper job to begin with. Ultimately, you do get what you pay for, and in reality they are really not that much cheaper than other moving firms in Amsterdam.
