Although the Jordaan isn’t a neighborhood where you have to look very hard for a place to have a nice lunch(or snack, or dinner, or… well just about anything, really), if you’re looking for some really good Dutch«broodjes»: Sprenkels on the Tweede Egelantiersdwarsstraat«cough» has that little something extra, that many other places lack. For one thing, there is their broodje omelette, super fluffy, in plain, cheese or ham, with some tomato, lettuce and cucumber, in a really fresh roll: they are just perfect. Or try a broodje with their homemade«kip-saté salade»(chicken pieces in a sweet-and-spicy peanut sauce). And then there’s what is labeled as quiches,(but what I consider to be a clever twist on the omelette). Crustless, filled with cheese and leeks(onions?), or cheese with spinach and tomatoes, on a potatoe(?) base: mouthwatering. Overall, I think it’s just pretty hard to go wrong here, and it is definitely worth a detour. And another thing: it’s conveniently/dangerously close to Monte Pelmo(look it up, peeps)!

The hubs and I went here just about every morning during our 5-day stay in Amsterdam. The bakery/café is small, cozy, friendly, homey, and just plain tasty. Nothing fancy, just good food at reasonable prices. The employees were helpful in assisting us in picking from the many broodjes(sandwiches with meat/cheese, no or little veg) on offer. We ended up eating an omelet broodje just about every morning, along w/a nice koffie verkeerd(latte). They have a machine that makes fresh-squeezed OJ, lots of lovely pastries(gebak), good koffie(euro-coffee, like espresso rather than a grande brewed coffee from Starbucks), and savory sandwiches as well. I tried the tuna salad one day, it was pretty yummy. Lots of locals are constantly streaming in and out of this place for bread. Anyway, if you are staying in the Jordaan neighborhood and are looking for breakfast, lunch, bread, etc., try this spot.

It is a typical dutch open sandwich place with main focus on selling Bread and like other take away place with trays of different spreads for your sandwish. They have one small table and a bench table by the window. If you are in the neighborhood and just want a cheap good sandwich, then this is the place. Don’t expect gourmet sandwish but it is definitely good value. I have the omelet with beenham sandwish. They also has some daily hot dishes starting from 6.50
