If Unilocal had 10 stars, this place would get it. I’ve never left a restaurant and felt so healthy and emotionally fulfilled. Delicious home made soups — the menu is seasonal and changes every day. In fact, it changes while you’re standing in line. It doesn’t really have seating so make sure you score one of the few stools or the bench right outside this teenie tiny slice of heaven.

It was pouring rain one afternoon in Amsterdam and we ducked into Soup en zo to get dry and to have some lunch. It is very similar to Hale and Hearty Soup in Manhattan. They have a variety of soups, cold salads and beverages. This location is very small and has very limited seating but we were able to sit and eat. It is a perfect quick lunch option while in Amsterdam and inexpensive-I would recommend and when in Amsterdam again, I will return

This place was such an incredible surprise to stumble upon. We were both pretty hungry and the weather was starting to cool off, so soup was the perfect thing for us. The service was great as everyone was very friendly and helpful. I had such a hard time deciding because everything smelled and looked so good. After we ordered and took our food outside we walked less than a minute to a canal and just set at the edge while we enjoyed the hot soup and took in the beautiful view. Couldn’t have been a better lunch.

Stopped by here as they were closing as we were rushing from a brewery. Vegetarian and Vegan options aplenty. I had potato soup and a quiche with salmon and my wife had a pumpkin Thai curry. Both were served hot and bread was a free addition. Not too expensive and thick hearty soup that left you feeling full but not stuffed. A great dinner or lunch spot for a quick takeaway or sit down.

The greatest soups, worthy of the soup N*zi. But note there is no good place to sit down. You can find a canal bench nearby if you look around a bit. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. The branch downtown has indoor seating.

Sehr leckere Suppen. Nicht ganz billig. Keine Sitzplätze. Manchmal recht voll, Warteschlange.

I like it quite a bit! One of my favorite soups is the potato with blue cheese… it’s very creamy and the blue cheese gives it a lot of flavor :) I also like the salads they offer. The place can get quite busy over lunch with a line out the door, but the wait shouldn’t be too bad since people just grab the food to go. They also let you sample the soup, so if you’re not sure, just try a few first! I think the main down fall is that it’s pricey… I easily spend over 10 euros for soup and salad.

if you are into healthy hearty food this is the place for you. An excellent choice of vegeterian grains(quinoa, cous cous, green leaves, lentils, beet root) all neatly displayed for you to choose an mix. In addition hot soups freshly made right in front of you. Only down side. they don’ t accept credit cards.

Soup en zo roughly translates into soups and stuff(or soup and that if you want to get really technical) and is a great little lunch spot that does great soups and sandwiches– especially on a cool spring day! They’ve also recently started an open salad bar(so you see what salads they have freshly made) and it becomes a point, weigh and pay option! The list of soups available changes day to day, most of the them(around 3 – 5) on the menu are vegetarian and vegan friendly, with 1 – 2 meat eater friendly options too– and each soup comes with a delicious little bread roll. but really, you should spoil yourself and get the cheese stick which they bake fresh in-house for € 1.10. What’s great about this little spot is that they’ll let you try any of the soups before you make a decision– but it doesn’t help the lunch time rush! The shop gets awfully busy around lunch time– so sometimes the line is well out the door and be aware, there’s nowhere to sit inside for a meal. Once you pay it’s time to get out, before the crush of the others customers comes up behind you!

We were very pleased to discover Soup en Zo, as it’s only a few minutes walk from the Rijkmuseum, and had a good range of soups to heat us up on a cold day, inlcuding a very pleasing selection of vegan soups. The day we visited, the vegan soup choices were sweet potato with coconut and cashew nuts, Thai black eyed peas with sweet potato and shitake, North African lentil soup, pumpkin soup with cumin, and spicy spinach withy coconut. There were also a couple of vegetarian options, and some meat options. I can’t vouch for the sandwiches, as we’d arrived late in the day, but they still had a good selection of hearty looking salads with chickpeas and quinoa — all very healthy choices. Next time I’m in Amsterdam, I’ll definitely remember to pop here for lunch if I’m around that area.

I love this place — they always have 4 – 8 soups, yummy fresh cheese sticks and make great salads(almost 9 euros each but you can get at least two meals out of each one). The staff are friendly. There are two short stools inside to sit on if you want to eat there or some benches outside.

Get the corn bread! lovely spot and you just can’t ignore how warm it is inside while passing by on your bike in the winter. My friends and I have a bit complaint about the portion and their liner pricing but it can be all covered by the taste. I will use rich!

You can’t go wrong here. Very flavorful soups. Great when you’re on the go and want a hearty, healthy meal. If you’re a tourist looking for a quick, inexpensive meal on the way to the museum, this is your stop. And there is always Stach across the street if you need something more ;). Seating: There is one bench on the outside that seats two. That’s it.

No seating at all except two benches outside, which isn’t so great in the rain, but that is the *only* reason to give this four stars and not five. So if it is not raining, or if you can balance your soup and hold an umbrella in one hand, you won’t get any better soup — fresh, delicious and unique soup, served in three sizes, with a fresh piece of bread(your choice of corn or brown bread). Positively yummy, and great service, too.

Great menu which changes everyday. Creative soups, they always taste great. Love this place but they have very little seats so this is best for take-away or eating outside.

Despite this being a soup place, I actually haven’t tried the soups yet(I’m saving that for winter)! The salads however are amazing! Both the feta salad and the smoked chicken salad are delicious and huge and really well priced as far as salads in Amsterdam go. If you can’t decide which soup to get, make sure you ask for a sample and they’ll happily provide you with a small amount to try.

I love Soup en Zo, it’s such a delicious soup place. Today I had North African lentil soup topped with cilantro which was vegan and incredible, and a turkey avocado and red pesto sandwich on multigrain bread. Everything they make is so so tasty and flavorful! I used to go to the one near Waterlooplein which is currently under construction but scheduled to reopen this month. I also tasted the pumpkin soup with mint, and another North African soup with lamb, both were good but the hearty lentil soup won me over today. This area of Amsterdam was nice to visit, lots of art galleries, and not too far from Leidsestraat and the Bloomenmarkt. My boyfriend and I shared a small soup, sandwich, and apple juice and paid 11 €. I probably couldn’t finish everything alone, so I’d say the prices are definitely worth it. Overall they have very tasty and fresh food.

I have been wanted a place like this in Oslo soooo badly, it’s my favourite lunch place in Amsterdam, especially in winter. Oozing hearty soups in three different sizes, a sea of different choices — and there will always be something you haven’t tried before as the menu changes daily too! Soup en zo offers plenty of vegetarian options, and my two stand out favourites are the pumpkin soup with mint and cashews, and the zucchini, basil and parmesan soup that comes with perfectly toasted pinenuts. If you(like me) can’t make up your mind of what to order because it all looks so darn good, well: not, to worry — they offer you small tastings to help your taste buds choose. But then again, that might just make you want them all. Perhaps get two small ones instead of a large? The prices are really good, but vary from soup to soup — still it will never set you back more than a few euros. When I lived here on a student budget I would eat here a few times a week. This branch is located on the corner of the Kerkstraat in a beautiful location, but sadly it only has a small bench outside for customers. this means take-away, what I do is head down to the closest canal, find a staircase and eat my soup there while taking in the view! Otherwise opt for the Waterlooplein branch where there are plenty of outdoor seating!(it’s currently closed for renovations though, should re-open in September.)

This place is fabulous for soups. Soon as I walked in the place I was hypnotized by the strong aroma of their hot pot of soups. Nothing beats the whiff… and taste of homemade soup in the kitchen. Soup en Zo is a very small restaurant with just a few spots to sit. Ideal place for locals to grab a fresh and hearty bowl of soup to go. If your wondering where is one of the best soups in town to pick up and go? I would strongly suggest this spot. I was so excited to find another place that served healthy and delicious soups. Plus the neighborhood is fabulous for everything! Here is a tip for first time visitors in Amsterdam, also make sure to check out the museum district. This neighborhood is home to the finest art galleries in Holland.
