Soen is perhaps the most overpriced restaurant I’ve ever visited. Like, globally. They charge € 15.00 or more for entrees that I wouldn’t recommend if they were half the price. **I’m not sure why the date of this review changed but I visited Soen in 2013. It’s very possible that things have improved.**

Really good, the best Thai we have found in A’dam. White fish curry, shrimp with eggplants, onion, …

We were out and about in the city of Amsterdam looking for some good eats. Internet is scarce when you are not from Europe so we went to some random supermarket so we can get some free internet to look up a place to eat. Soen, Thai food, crossed our eyes and we decided to give it a try since we were not too far away and we are fans of Thai food to begin with. Service was good and on point, didn’t have to wait long for food. They also have free wifi as well. The size is pretty decent, there were plenty of open seats when we went. They don’t have a wide selection of beers or anything that is special to Amsterdam, so we didn’t order any of that. They also do not have Thai ice tea here which was kind of a surprise, usually Thai restaurants serve Thai ice tea, at least in NY, they do. That was a little disappointing. We just opted for water. The dishes and entrees themselves were very good. We got three plate entrees all with chicken, one with red curry, pineapples, and onion, one with green curry, and one with garlic soya sauce with a bunch of vegetables. The star ** spice level was in my opinion pretty spicy, but it depends on the consumer. Couldn’t imagine what kind of heat 3 stars would bring. They ask you what kind of heat level you want it at. Overall very good all around and would recommend it to anyone looking for some Thai food in the beautiful city of Amsterdam.

This is my favorite Thai place in Amsterdam. They have a great menu and you can ask for any dish to have 1,2 or 3 stars for mildly spicy to crazy hot. I usually go for 1 – 2 stars as I’ve found 3 stars to be just too hot(and I really like spicy food). The service is very friendly and the food is excellent. They have the best Phad Thai that I’ve ever found, I don’t bother to order it anywhere else because I’m always disappointed. They don’t take American Express here though.

I love the Tom Yum Koong here; the best I’ve been able to find in Amsterdam and in NYC. The prawns are fresh and the soup is clear with the right blend of flavors. Not cheap, € 7, but worth it in my opinion. I’ve been coming here for years just for this soup. I had tried a few main courses from the menu but have never liked any of them. Stick with the soup, unless you’re less particular about the other dishes. They even gave me a bottle of free tap water without having to ask for it. That’s thumbs-up for Amsterdam!

I’ve never eaten at Soen, but ordered from there 5 – 6 times online. Everything I’ve tried was really nice! Their spicy dishes are spicy enough to feel the heat, but not so spicy that I can’t taste anything but fire, so I like it quite a bit. They have nice portions, a balance between meat and vegetables, and great sauces. Very good!

Decent Thai food. Quite spicy but no fresh spring rolls so I wonder how fresh the food really is. Also the super spicy dish wasn’t too spicy but in this touristy city that is hardly a big offence. On the other hand the squid was delicious. Both the fried squid as my squid in spicy Thai basil sauce.

We had a nice meal here. The waitress said that the food was«authentically» spicy and she was right. I like spicy food so I ordered the Phad Phed with tofu in red curry sauce which the menu gave a 2 of 3 on the spiciness scale. This level of spiciness made me warm but not sweaty. They will adjust the spice level of any dish for you. My husband had the special Phad Thai that was filled with a variety of seafood. The portions were very large. We also had a carafe of house wine for a total bill of 45 euros. The service was friendly and helpful.

Food & service are OK, not spectacular. Cosy bistro/café like interior but somehow it does’t work with the Thai food for me.
