Herengracht Restaurant & Bar

This is such a pretty restaurant, which cater for breakfast lunch and dinner.
The highlight is the beautiful outdoor seating area right along the canal. Inside the décor is vintage style with a modern twist!
The food was really tasty and I wanted to eat every dish that went past me as everything looked so good!
The only thing this place lacked was attentive staff. We waited ages for our order to be taken and we had to ask for the bill twice before just going up to the till and asking to pay. Which meant we sat around for 15 mins after finishing our food and waiting to pay!

Le restaurant est très bien situé, au bord du Canal Herengracht, ce qui rend la terrasse très agréable surtout par beau temps. En revanche, rien d’exceptionnel sur la carte et le lieu… C’est bon mais rien de fou.

If you love fondue, and you’re in the Netherlands, you must come here! Beautiful, Parisian feel, expert service. In Rembrandt Plein, enjoy the views.

Searched for a good place for a Caesar salad in Amsterdam and decided to try Herengracht. The restaurant is very large with lots of outdoor seating in front by the canal, several rooms inside, and a garden patio in the back. i picked a table in the back, since it was a cool day and I didn’t have my coat. The garden area in the back has picnic tables, along with two larger wooden tables. None of the chairs in this area have seatbacks, so plan to sit up straight like your Mother taught you.
I skipped the Caesar salad after all that, as it was about 12 Euros. Instead, opted for the Croque Monsieur, which was pretty good. Basic bread toasted with ham and cheese. Served with a tiny salad on the side of the plate, but not bad for 6 Euros.
Restaurant was about 25% full, so busy but not too busy. I would probably go back here again, but it’s not on the top of my list.

Of course, since it was July, we chose a table outside. The tables are right on the canal which gives them a lovely view. We were there around 2 p.m. and it was still busy outside! Nobody was sitting inside, because why sit inside when there is beautiful weather?
I got the cheese plate and my husband got a Caesar salad with chicken. I loved the cheese plate. It had a molasses like applesauce and nuts. It was a delicious combination. I also loved eating my husband’s poached egg and anchovies (which he asked for on the side, since he wasn’t going to eat it). I’ve never seen a poached egg with a Caesar salad, but it was a welcome addition.
I got serious food envy when I looked at the table next to us and saw their sandwiches. The bread looked so thick and tasty. I wish we had enough time to come back so I could have tried a sandwich.
This is a great staple restaurant for the area. If I lived in Amsterdam, I would probably come here quite a lot.

We arrived at this restaurant around 5:45 and found ourselves a table inside since (understandably) all the tables outside were full. It took a few minutes to have a server come over to us, but when he did he was delightful! I’m not sure I’ve seen someone smile so much as a server ever. He certainly could bring anyone’s mood up! Service is the reason for the extra .5 star
Apparently the dinner menu starts at 6pm, so we got two cocktails (in the 10 euro price-​range), the cheese fondue and the sampler bar snacks. The fondue was good and was given bread, celery, carrots, radishes, and slices of red peppers… but not very much of the veggies. The bar snacks were just okay, too.
The drinks were good, but they were out of something to make the martini I wanted, so I ended up with a regular Cosmo, which was tasty. My husband got a Mojito and it had plenty of mint in it, but didn’t look like it had been muddled at all. The raw sugar just sat on the bottom of the glass. But he said it tasted good after mixing it up himself.
This is a solid A-​OK kind of place. If someone wanted to go back, I’d be fine with that. But I’m probably not going to find my way back on my own.

Cadre sympathique, beaucoup d’espace, plusieurs pièces à ambiances différentes.
Le prix est un peu élevé mais pas trop non plus, j’ai pris une omelette, elle était bien fournie!
Egalement parfait pour un petit café.

Came upon this place after finding Pancakes Amsterdam was closed and I was starving! Checked out the menu, and they had a good breakfast and lunch selection. Was seated near the bar, and the waiter was friendly and funny. For instance I asked for still water, but saw someone drinking diet coke, so I asked for that instead. He jokingly threw the water bottle at me.
I went with the smoked beef sandwich as the truffled egg salad got to me. It was a good sized sandwich, with an ample helping of deliciously thinly sliced beef, lettuce, and a small helping of the egg salad. Couldn’t really taste the truffle, but it was indeed a great sandwich.
If I was ever back in the area, I would come back, gorgeous restaurant and apparently they have a garden view that I did not get to see.

I came here for dinner, and honestly, I felt this place was trying a bit too hard. Yes, the food was nice, but it did not warrant the extravagant language used on the menu, nor the elaborate on-​plate presentation, and certainly not the snooty looks with which I was greeted by both the servers and the clientele. (To be fair, I was dressed ultra-​casual while there was some sort of cocktail party going on in the lower level of the restaurant.) In fact I was a bit disappointed by the way they prepared the fish that I ordered… but definitely a fan of their wine card.
It’s a nice place if you’re near Leidseplein and looking for a nice, non-​tourist-​trap place, but I’m not planning to go there for dinner again. (Sounds like their breakfast and lunch are nice though!)

Came here for lunch and dinner today. The service was great both times and the food was diverse enough from lunch to dinner that I didnt feel that it was repetitive. For lunch I had a croque Madame and dinner I had a quiche. Both dishes were really tasty. I would skip the rhubarb dessert however.

Good spot for breakfast served till 11am.
They serve large portions of scrambled eggs.
Their cappuccino is good too.

Went here twice during our stay in Amsterdam… once for breakfast, and then for dinner. We definitely enjoyed both occasions. Service was friendly and food good.
During dinner we ordered the nachos as an app, which were basic but satisfied the craving. Next we ordered the burger and ravioli. Both very good. Overall, the ambience at Herengracht was exactly what we were looking for, food was decent and service friendly. We will definitely return on our next visit.

The menu isn’t too imaginative, and some of the servers are not the friendliest guys in the world, but it’s fine for what it is, and they do have a large and lovely patio area and front doors opening onto the street.

Nach einer langen Anreise nach Amsterdam und einer anschließenden Stadt Erkundung bekamen wir Hunger und wir sind zufällig an diesem Restaurant vorbei gelaufen. Das Restaurant liegt wie der Name sagt, am Herengracht. Auch dadurch machte das Restaurant einen sehr gemütlichen Eindruck und so entschieden wir uns hier etwas zu Essen. Als Essen wählte ich einen Burger, der mit einem kleinen Salat und Pommes serviert wurde. Nach unserer Bestellung mussten wir dann doch einige Zeit warten, bis wir unser Essen erhalten haben. Der Burger hat dann gut geschmeckt, war aber nichts besonderes. Leider war das Patty für mich etwas zu klein.
Der Besuch in diesem Restaurant hat sich aber dennoch gelohnt. Wobei ich aber denke, dass es sich eher als Ziel für ein kühles Bierchen eignet.

Very good fresh tuna sandwich

Fantastic place at a fabulous location! Maybe I am biast — because I ran into an old friend who is very dear to me that night and ofcourse it colored my experience (in the craziest colors!!). But we had great service and the atmosphere was great. The beers were fresh and the food was delicious and much needed. We especially got to taste the bitter-​balletjes — and they were perfect.
The place seems very popular and they alsways have a party going on.
I can very much recommend this place for the weekends at night — it is great fun and very central!

As rude as they can get!!!
This bar has an awesome terrace where it would be great to lounge and sip a drink in the sun or inside, take a warm chocolate /​tea in winter as it is really nice but… there is a BIG but… they are rude, very bad service and lauzy as I never experienced any place in Amsterdam.
Felt like the waitress was the customer… and to pay… please step inside … ??? Really bad. No wonder they had space in the sun on the terrace… people know by know and stay away.
A beer is basically the same, more or less, all over the city… so the plus is location. and service.

Met some friends here for a drink and the décor was pretty nice. The liquor selection left a bit to be desired (I’m a whiskey fan and they didn’t have much to offer). It was very smokey downstairs, but there is a non-​smoking area as well. Seems like a reasonably popular/​trendy place so if you want a slightly more sophisticated feel this isn’t a bad bet.

Wenn man Glück hat, sitzt man direkt am Kanal. Die Lage ist damit top. Man kann direkt von der Einkaufsstraße einkehren. Die Tische stehen draußen sehr eng beieinander. Die Bedienung ist, wenn sie denn mal irgendwann kommt, sehr nett. Der Cappuccino war ok, nicht besonders groß, preislich aber in Ordnung (ca. 2,80 EUR). Hier treffen sich augenscheinlich die besser Betuchten. Man kann auch drinnen sitzen. Die WC-​Räume sind sehr schick.

Excellent coffee and truffle meatballs, fairly average everything else (soup was ok, shrimp croquettes weren’t that good). Cute place to sit for awhile during the day.
