My only issue with this square is that having a full blown miniature amusement park blocking a view of(and directly opposite) the Royal Palace struck me as tacky and rude. First because the palace is scarily rundown looking and it does not need a new metal structure blocking it to provide contrast and again it’s presence seems fairly disrespectful to the Dutch monarchy. That being said, I am sure the royal family could have blocked its placement and this was one of the happier places I encountered in the main square. As was to be expected, the general safety restrictions in this country are different from my own so the rollercoaster higher than the height of the palace itself went extremely fast, had no seatbelt, had one entire side open with only a small bar to separate you from the pavement and it caused my to silently scream the entire ride. That was a scary, but memorable experience, that need not be repeated. The general game stands were on the smaller side but overflowing with dozens of stuffed prizes representing the animal kingdom. Although it is a sight to behold, it is also a vegan nightmare come to life. The waffle and ice cream stands had wares tasting fresher than anything I have had in the States. The two rows of claw dropping machines, license plate making stands while the mobile hotdog and hamburger stands were also severely enticing. This is a classic tourist trap, but at night, with all the lights turned on as high as possible, it was the closest I had to live fireworks.
