Terribly small portions! I can understand small portions for a Michelin star type venue but it was just ridiculous here:)

We went there for a lunch on a Saturday. The place looks cool and it was busy so we had to wait few minutes for a table. The food was not good at all. The burger was made from some kind of cheap freezer beef so it tasted more like a meatloaf. The salad was even worse dry chewy chicken and bad quality ingredients. In the end we did not have to pay for the salad. So we have to say the staff is very nice.

I come here with my friend, every time I’m in Amsterdam, which is 4 – 6 times per year. The food is good, and there’s an interesting menu, if limited. Beware; the portions are huge, and the execution is very Dutch; ie lots of cheese! The setting is brilliant, and the terrace in the summer is very very nice.

In several trips to Amsterdam I have never been here to eat. Finally did. It was pretty good. I had the club sandwich. Friend had eggs Benedict. Both were decent and the price wasn’t that bad. They don’t take AMEX.

Finally made it to this restaurant. The interior is nice and feels homey. Beautiful chandeliers! Service was friendly enough for Amsterdam(at first I did feel like I was expected to apologize for disturbing the waitress by placing an order but she seemed to eventually have figured out that taking orders is part of the job). The food was just mediocre — at best. I’m no stellar cook but the whatever-was-in-my-fridge-that-I-threw-in-a-pan for lunch was better than the 50 € dinner I had here. Might go back for a drink on the terrace in the summer but food-wise it’s a better investment to go to Portugal or Italy and have a meal there.

I’m basically shocked that there are so many good reviews here. That the location is sublime and that the centuries-old building is truly a treasure, only makes me more disappointed in what awaited me inside. The interior was neither innovative design nor old and original. Just sort of mediocre. As was the service and the food. In fact, the service was less than mediocre, I felt that I was a hassle to the server, even though I ordered the first time she came round and didn’t ask for anything remotely special. And nothing remotely special was exactly what I got. A really dull chicken salad with a boring peanut sauce. And the portion was laughable. A fistful of lettuce with an ounce of chicken and a few soggy sun dried tomatoes. About the size of a baked potato. Although there was nothing else too exciting on the menu either way. My friend’s club sandwich looked gross, although he said it was good enough. Should have rather gotten take out from Lombardo’s for a club sandwich and chicken salad, would have left satisfied, sated, and for a lower ticket. You live you learn. I can henceforth enjoy the best of café de waag from one of the many lovely terraces on Nieuwmarkt.

What a find! We were visiting Amsterdam and happened to be nearby and discovered the street. And I’m so glad we did! Not only does it have a very cool ambiance(spacious, modern with shelves of wine bottles covering the walls), but also the food is delicious and very well-priced. The service was slow at first but picked up quickly. I would absolutely come here again when I’m next in Amsterdam.

Atmosphere is superb wait staff friendly. Food was ok. I ordered pork belly which was prepared well however it came with three mounds of mashed potatoes. The first mound was warm the second was ice cold in the middle which leads me to believe they are prepared ahead of time stuck in the fridge and pulled out at the last minute and warmed under a warmer. Why one would be hot and the other ice cold is beyond me. The third was not hot or ice cold merely room temperature. I wasn’t up to complaining since it took a longer time than usual to get our main course. My guest had the steak which he asked for medium rare it was not medium rare but medium. My other guest had the lobster which was fine. It was the special of the night. I would not go back.

Nice for a drink, food is average at best. If you can’t ace something as simple as a burger, I wouldn’t want to go near your other dishes…

This place was so nice we ended up sitting here all afternoon! Reasonably priced drinks, a really nice outside seating area and very friendly service. We were there so long they opened the kitchen for dinner, and all our dishes were very tasty. It’s a lovely place where you can go for a drink and watch the world go by or have a nicer, more formal dinner, and its in the quieter part of the centre of town, easy to get to from all directions!

The building the restaurant is located in dates from the late 1400’s. It’s a beautiful castle like building. Inside the interior was wholly lighted by candles. Candles on the shelves, candles on the chandeliers, candles on the table. Now that sets a warm stage for a wonderful meal to come. The food presentation was notable and the service impeccable. Unlike many other restaurants, they were very pliable when it came to making substitutions. Surprisingly, the menu was not overpriced for being in an area you could call touristy.

One of the Restaurants in Amsterdam with the best atmospher. The restaurant is illumminated mainly with candles. Food is excellent, service is compared to the Amsterdam standard perfect, but you cant afford that every day, prices are quite high.

This was our second visit to In De Waag… we enjoyed our first meal so much we decided to see if it was a fluke, especially given some of the lukewarm reviews. I’m happy to report that our second meal was as good as the first and we will continue to count this as one of our favorites in a city of really good eats. Sure it’s a little touristy, but the atmosphere is too good to pass up, and the food is quite good. Definitely get a waffle with hot cherries for dessert!

The restaurant is in the remnants of the 1488 defensive wall for Amsterdam. The food was very good. And a large Amstell after walking 4 miles through town was just what was needed. I had the Eggs Benedict. It was on a large slice of bread with very good smoked ham, a farm fresh egg and a tart hollandaise sauce. I found a seat at 11:30 on a mid November sunny Saturday. They were very busy and extremely nice. I’m giving it a five because of the kind service good food and unsurpassed atmosphere.

Having gone for dinner, I’ll say that lunch is much more impressive. It’s just a little bit pricey for what you get(the beef was decent quality but without much flavor). I’ll keep going back for a bite in the afternoon, but with so many places to try, I probably wouldn’t find myself here for dinner again.

Just had a drink(large beer) and some dutch apéritif food. Service was good. Food was good(bar food). I want to try dinner next time. The terrace is very nice. facing the Neumarkt square… make sure you do not get there on Saturday(and sometimes on Sunday) otherway all you will see is market tents :)

Café In de Waag was unlike any other restaurant I have been to. The restaurant building is located in a historical building, originally known as the«Weigh House». The Weigh House was built in 1488 and the exterior has a cool, castle-like character. Inside the restaurant the atmosphere is informal and romanticly lit in candle light from the 300 candles scattered around the interior. There are multiple levels and private rooms in the restaurant. Café In de Waag not only has amazing atmosphere, but the restaurant also has delicious food. We visited for a late lunch and enjoyed the Beef Croquette Sandwich, Smoked Salmon Salad, and the Tomato Soup. Of course we had to order French Fries with ketchup and mayonaise since Europeans eat mayonaise with their fries. Weird combination, but it works! I’m not a big mayonaise eater so I don’t think I would order this at home, but it was nice to try and say I’ve eaten this once. The best part of our lunch besides the cool atmosphere and tasty food was the reasonable prices. Would definitely come back here. They have a cool bar area that I’d recommend checking out. The charcuterie plate on the bar menu sounded really good!
