If you’re a hip hop lover visiting/living in Amsterdam and looking for a chill night out, Café de Duivel is your place. On the inside, it seems like a regular pub that got attacked by a bunch of sticker maniacs; most of the bar area is covered by stickers relating to the Amsterdam skating and hip hop scene. They have a bunch of nice beers on tap and always play the best of hip hop(the bartender may even take your recommendations), all the way from the dark ages of hip hop to the golden era and all sorts of new school styles. It’s a chill place where everybody’s welcome and it has everything you need for a great night of headbopping.

Had such high hopes for this place. Being from NYC the birthplace of Hiphop I was psyched to see how the hottest hiphop spot in Amsterdam looked/felt. Location was amidst many other bars/restaurants which is a plus incase you got bored. The space was SMALL which was ok. The walls were plain, with the vibe/potential there should be murals/graffiti on the wall, there definitely was enough space. We sat by the bar and had several drinks, there waS a DJ setting up but the current playlist was being done by the bartender on his laptop… the playlist included local/european artists and some unknown. They don’t take requests but somehow it was known I was from NYC and finally, I was able to get out of my seat and rock with it… that lasted a few minutes. The DJ was on and spinning… unknown beats. I was there to dance and sway, mostly locals were there for drinks and chatting. After 4 hours, I gave up. The fact that you can smoke both cigs and pot after 1am was a big motivator to leave. So disappointed. Not worth the walk in the rain. Not worth all your clothes reeking of cigarette smoke. I won’t be back. Bartenders were cool but no buy backs either. Oh well.

The most authentic hip hop café in Amsterdam. No fancy hipster stuff. No fake gangsta shenanigans. Just dudes chilling, smoking, drinking to rap music.

This place is the perfect bar to chill out in if you are staying near to Rembrandtplein. The music is mainly lot of soul and R&B with some classic hip hop. The staff each time have been quick efficient and friendly. This is a place where locals hang out so for a tourist I believe that you might feel like you are getting more close to people that live and work here vs the tourists all partying at the larger and busier bars right down the street. The vibe is energetic but not crushingly loud. It is dark and has a cozy feel. Really have enjoyed each time I have been and I have been four times. Go here if you want great Belgian beers and people that know them well. The one bar tender here advised my friend and I about visiting Brouerij ‘t Ij for that experience so he was helpful to myself being just a tourist.
