Great place for a late night dinner but wasn’t overly impressed with the staff service. The server we had was little rude, sarcastic and overly unhelpful, she seemed to be paid on commission. She advised that we had to order a certain amount of food and pushed several members to order larger servings than they could eat as she lied about the portion sizes. We finished dinner and grabbed a drink out the front in their outdoor area, their crappy service continued outside when asking the server about drink options. They were also quite short/rude when they decided they wanted to close the area. They targeted our group and were quite rude when trying to get us to move back inside or finish our drinks. They did not act like this to several other groups of drinkers who were making far more noise, one or two of them appeared to know them. We were a mix of folks of different nationalities and felt quite unwelcome which was a shame to finish the night on a bad note like that…

Very hipster friendly setup, especially when you enter, what with minimalist lamp shades and lamps made of whiskey bottles. They also have nicer tables deeper inside with table covers and napkins for meals. We sat at the sofa by the window right as you enter, and it was an awesome spot with the sun brightly shining through and a comfortable rug under our feet. The service was terrific and there was always someone ready to take your order. I looked at the lunch menu, but since I wasn’t very hungry, decided to go with just a coffee. I am not sure where that coffee came from, but it was one of the worst I ever tried! Even the cookie that came with it smelled stale and had this artificial sort of smell. Just based on a nice quiet interior and seating I am choosing to give Baut 3 stars, but obviously this is not where you come for a good coffee.

Had a really nice dinner here last night. Nice bottle of wine, delicious food and good service. Fun, lively atmosphere. Ordered 2 plates of food per person and enjoyed the variety. Food tasted very fresh. Particularly liked the tuna. After two weeks of eating traditional European food, we really appreciated the fresh and flavorful food here.

Been here for lunch(bruschettas) and dinner. Food is pretty good but I don’t love the ambiance or décor of the place. It’s definitely not gezellig or very stylish. I know it’s just a pop-up/makeshift but it feels a bit too temporary to me. Also last time I was there, 2 tables beside me both had dogs that were fighting with each other. Dogs barking in restaurants I find quite a turn off on several levels, noise, hygiene etc. Probably won’t go back again.

Lunch at BAUT: I really like BAUT’s location. I think this part of east Amsterdam is really the place to be right now. My BF and I tried the sandwiches after we came from the indoor vintage market in Trouw, and the sandwiches were really good. Also thought the waiters were very friendly! Love the raw interior and the menu design in BAUT. Also the vintage furniture. Really nice place. Have to try dinner sometime.

It’s actually been a few months ago since I visited this restaurant with a few Unilocalies, but couldn’t be bothered to write a review. However, now that I’m running out of restaurants to review(drying up funds) I’m going to bother. Also, I think the restaurant, well mainly the service, kind of unfairly got bad reviews. I wasn’t responsible for reservations, don’t know what arrangements were made, so can’t really judge what went wrong with reservations. However, somehow people always expect people working in service to possess superhuman zen-like abilities. So when someone impatiently decides to start pressing random bottons on the mobile ATM machine after the waitress leaves our table for 15 sec at max, causing it(the machine, not the waitress) to start spurting out all the receipts of the previous services, rendering it(the machine) useless during opening weeks when every hipster in town wants to eat at your restaurant, I don’t think I would be amused either. I thought the restaurant manager? remained reasonably calm and managed to keep a sense of humor when he decided to address our table wearing the receipts around his neck like a neclace. All he did was inquire who pushed what button, I would too if someone managed to push my buttons. He didn’t raise his voice. Things only escalated when people from our group started to raise their voice. Personally, I would’ve had turned green, put the receipt chain around the perpetrator’s neck and started choking her with it, but then again, I’m not a practicing buddhist and I don’t work in service. No seriously though, give the guy a break. It was super busy during opening weeks and he really couldn’t use these shenanigans… As for the food, I think everyone did agree that the food was GOOD! Eating with a group in a restaurant that promotes shared dining is always a good thing. This allowed me to try a whole bunch of dishes… the scallops with cauliflower, a classic combo and always good. The shoft shell crab, my least favorite(miss blandish). On the otherhand, loved the tournedos Rossini with foie gras! The tagliarini with mushroom truffle sauce, not bad, not bad at all, but the risotto with cod was def my fav. The fries… what fries… the fries were gone before I had a chance to sample them, but luckely there was still some bread left served with some yummie truffle spread

Right off the bat: THEFOODISAMAZING! Okay, so there are a lot of three star ratings for this new place called Baut, which I recently learned also means«shit» with the same pronunciation but with different spelling. I decided to give them 3 stars too, because despite their many shortcomings, the food is indeed very good. Why many shortcomings? Well, most of the shortcomings, I blame on the management. If I was running this place, I would be embarrassed to death. The service is lacking more than your average Dutch restaurant. Service in Holland is pretty infamous but this place seems to want to break a record. Here’s what I’m talking about: We made reservations. We confirmed reservations. They lost our reservation. They made us wait for 2 hours! They were inflexible and unwilling to make the best of our situation. After we finally got seated, fed and wanted to pay, one of the waiters patronizingly came back with the credit card reader because something went wrong and he blamed us ever so arrogantly. We mentioned that the machine was left there without instructions and the other waitress left mid-payment and he went into an argumentative state of defense while diligently maintaining his arrogance. This is neither a way to accept payments nor to treat customers, especially not when you’re a newly opened restaurant. So, I would say that management has focussed on a nice looking restaurant with pretty great food for a decent price in ratio to the quality but that which makes you feel welcome and want to come back is severely lacking. In fact, the awesome food, started to take a poisonous aftertaste because of the treatment we received. The food? Really good! Great execution and fresh ingredients. The plates are big, the portions are tiny. If you want to have a full meal, I’d say you’d have to order 2 – 3 dishes per person. Each dish costs about 10 – 16 euro. I especially liked, nay, loved the risotto with cod and the tagliarini with mushrooms. Many in my company loved the veal steak. If you wanna go here you should have the lowest expectations for service. The higher you climb, the harder the fall. Have no expectations and you might even be content. Just have an F it attitude. The food’s very good. Will I go back? I probably will but not regularly.
