There are very few places in the world that I’d rather be on than here. After a day’s work, my peeps and loser friends go out drinking, but this small gem is where everything happens in Amsterdam. All the Unilocalers think they’re so cool with their fancy restaurants, that I just have to stick by the weak and forgotten. Let’s start: as you walk in, you’ll notice the fine selection of salads, all neatly packaged and pre-processed for you, so that you’ll only need to open the packet and start eating. As you venture further, you will experience the joy of the food aisle: 3 different kinds of fish and more than 4 types of meat to fill your belly. It’s the culmination of all the animals in the world, one for each day of the week. The baguetterie is just up ahead, but this is not just any baguetterie… these are fine sliced sandwich bread, ready to embrace some cheap cheese and/or ham, for your afternoon snacks. As you stroll around, the sheer genius of their design begins to strike you: hygiene and bathroom chemicals stored next to the cookies? Dog food with Nestle candy at the sides? wow! I will not describe anymore, because that would take away the fun, but just as an appetizer, it’s said that Van Gogh himself used to work here as a teenager and some of his first doodles were used by the brand, as the mascot. Needless to say, your museum cards are accepted here.
