Also, pretty cool to see a grocery chain like Meijer, Kroger, and Aldi in the Netherlands. We went to a few of these while here and they have a lot of great stuff at a great price. If you think a lot of places in Centrum are expensive, come to Albert Heijn and you can get cold salads/sandwiches for a really good price. So much less pricier than some of the cafes trying to persuade tourists to dine there. Got bananas, orange juice, chocolates, some basics the times I was here. Great place!

A nice local chain supermarket. Everything looked really fresh and the store was really clean.

This is a chain of local grocery stores. They have a good selection of meats, vegetables, fruits, canned goods, food stuffs and paper products. They carry almost everything you’d need to cook a meal, clean a house or take care of your hygienic needs. Standard fare you’d expect in any store of this type.

Dutch chain supermarket — this is a fairly small store perfect for picking up lunchtime al fresco treats. Good bread, decent range of cold meats and of course Dutch cheeses. Be warned no large water bottles in the chiller cabinets and limited wine choice and no spirits… Bring your own bags or pay for the pleasure. There are various branches dotted all over Amsterdam — prices seemed reasonable, stores are clean, bright and well stocked — great option for picking up supplies if you are staying in one of the local hotels.
