This place was a disappointment and I left with serious diner’s remorse. Any place that has such a huge menu should be an instant signal that almost everything in their dishes are frozen. This place is near Bastille and I’ve walked by it so many times that I thought we should give it a chance. I was on a seafood craving so I ordered the shrimp coconut soup(tom kha goong), the seafood salad, and the grilled seafood on a hot plate. The soup was the worst I’ve ever had. Coconut milk mixed into their lemongrass soup. Shrimp that was obviously thawed from a frozen state directly in the soup because of their viscous nature. Their shrimp was the same size and consistency in all the dishes. The lettuce in the salad was ugly and old looking diced romaine without much else other than the thin slices of scallops and fishy tasting squid. My wife’s beef on a hot plate was nothing special either. The Singha beer was the best thing on the menu and the highlight of our evening was my cousin seeing us as she walked by and stopping to chat with us. We should have walked the 5 extra minutes to Mai Thai.

We were supposed to go to Grazie for dinner down the street but my stomach was just not ready for pizza, so we walked down the street looking for something for my asian stomach and decided on Thai Imperial, which is really a Chinese restaurant that serves Chinese, Thai, and Korean food. Even though the french name of the restaurants explicitly says Thai, the name in Chinese indicates southern China. The menu is in a mixture of French, English, and Simplified Chinese and is insanely giant… there must be over 100 dishes available to be ordered. We started with the small deep fried spring rolls that came with lettuce leaves and fish sauce(seems kinda Vietnamese style to me). Most people who order this dish doesn’t seem to know that you’re supposed to wrap the spring roll in the leaves and then dip it in the sauce, but I know(muahaha). It was surprisingly delish. Our second order was the steamed bbq pork bun, which they are called«brioche avec porc laquer). It was a bit oversteamed and not very authentic, but it tasted really good and we ended ordering three servings of it(6 buns altogether!). The next two dishes were very VERY disappointing. The Singapore vermicelli at 6EURO lacked curry flavour and the portion was TINY. If you order it for a main course, you’re going to need three servings of that to be somewhat full(and note that i’m a 5’3» asian girl). The lemongrass spare ribs came as the biggest surprise. It was four ribs deep fried so that it was dark and crispy, barely marinated(no lemongrass taste), and a side of fish sauce. WEIRD. Doesn’t come with anything else – no rice, no sides, just the four dried ribs… Our total came to 32 Euros for the dishes mentioned above. The service was good. The table next to us had a stoovetop with a small grill on top and they were grilling their own meat, which made our clothes and hair smell afterward. I wish I ate that. The place was better than I expected and I wouldn’t mind too much if we had to eat there again.
