A quaint small place that once must have been clean and tidy. Now it looks overly decorated and tired. All tourists and full on our one visit. Quick and uninterested waiter, giving minimal information about the choices, even for fluent French speakers. Frog legs are imported from Turkey, he said. They are small and bland compared to Southern US frogs. The sauces are the only flavor and that is not saying much. Would not return but if you’ve never had frog legs, you could try it, but go early for a seat. On top of it, two of of group of four got sick that night.

Looking for a restaurant to make a rsvn at for our quick weekend trip to Paris. Once again I came across this one. Loved it several years back, made a point to return last year, when they were so incredibly rude to us that when this name popped up again, I felt I still needed to add my two cents. We had an early rsvn, so early in fact we were the only ones in the place right as it opened for dinner. My friend wanted only an appetizer and wine while I was ready for a meal with my wine! That was not enough(bill not high enough?) for them, she was not ordering enough and the manager went into a tirade about Americans and you cannot come to a restaurant in Paris and just order appetizer and wine, even though I was ordering dinner. Would have been nice to have been told they did not want our business before bringing food out. They literally ignored our table(no more water or wine for us, just pay me and get out) as we finished our food. They totally ruined the evening with their rudeness and their incompetent service.

Very hidden, tucked away and quaint restaurant! This place has a lot of history and character. We started with the cold Gazpacho soup and fois gras and these were good but this place is named after a Frog for a reason! GETTHEFROGLEGS! I had them in White sauce and they were the best I have ever had!!! Also, try the lavender ice cream desert!

Made a reservation on Unilocal, which the waitress brusquely said she didn’t have(without checking anything) when we arrived. However, she informed the manager, who came out and got us a table a few minutes later. My husband ordered a cold tomato soup with avocado cream, and the classic garlic and parsley frog legs. I ordered the foie gras crème brûlée, and the«Oriental» frog legs with candied lemon, candied orange, coriander, and pine nuts. I ended up liking my frog dish more. There’s nothing wrong with the classic flavors, but it’s heavier and I get a little tired by the common pairing. The foie gras crème brûlée was delicious, but I wasn’t as amazed as some other reviewers, probably because I’d had a similar flavor profile of foie gras, sugar, salt, and crunch earlier at a different restaurant. However, if you haven’t already, this is definitely worth a try.

We were at this small family run restaurant over the new years and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was Paris in every bite. The waiting staff were very accommodating with our food request and queries even with our language barrier. They serve up some fine wine too. The food itself was delicious all through out the courses. A special mention to the soups. Some of the best soups we have ever had. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. Each morsel melted in the mouth. The food disappeared very quickly. The chef on my wife’s request cooked up a“legume” entrée and it was not something just put together for the sake of it. It was well thought out and delicious! This place is not cheap and at the same time not terribly expensive. We strongly recommend this place if you want to experience local Parisian fare.

Roger la Grenouille popped up when I was searching for a nice french dinner before our Paris vacation ended. Since it is close to our hotel, my husband and I decided to give it a try. Now I am pretty glad that we actually did. We started with escargot and fried frog legs. They were delicious. Main course was Lamb Shank with mashed potato, finished up with a dessert called«baba». I enjoyed the lamb shank but wished it could be a little more tender. The dessert was quite an adventure. Till the end I still couldn’t figure out what it was exactly. :-D(Somehow I wished that I would have ordered the chocolate cake instead) The staff are very friendly. They were patient and willing to explain items on the menu to me. They have all sort of ways to cook frog legs. If you are a fan of that, definitely don’t miss this one. On top of that, the atmosphere is quite unique. One wall had many countries’ currencies glued on it. Also I saw an old french newspaper article introducing the restaurant in the 1940s. Quite a history. Price wise, I think it is very reasonable. Appetizers are mostly under 10 euros, and main entrees are about 20 – 30 euros. Desserts are little bit pricy, around 10 euros. However, all those prices are already included the tax, and other fees. So the total bill would be much cheaper than you get in the States, let alone tips. Another trick to mention, if you don’t have reservations, please go there early. We arrived around 7:30pm, which is earlier in terms of dinner time in Paris. By 8:30pm, this place was packed.

It’s a hidden tucked away gem in Paris, away from the main road. Very cozy and intimate layout, with great décor. I came here primarily for the escargot(snails) and frogs legs(because the name has the word frog in french in it, so it has to be good) which was good.

On a tiny backstreet in an alley of an alley, you’ll find this narrow little restaurant. You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see the frog-themed decorations. The front entrance on the street will be locked; you actually have to enter through the side entrance. Somehow, all of these little touches keep the place grounded, humble and endearing. You forget that this is a world-famous establishment and that thousands before you have trekked the same cobblestone streets to eat this famous French dish. When we sat down, we received complimentary handmade baguette pieces, which were delicious and nice to munch on as we contemplated the menu and the international graffiti on the walls. They have a lunch menu, but it DOESN’T include frog legs. You can order their signature frog legs at any time of day, but it’s the same price. In other words, no lunchtime discount for frog legs. The small portion of frog legs«Classical» Provençale came with sliced garlic and parsley and buttered rice. It was delicious and balanced. Nice, buttery, and juicy, with flavorful seasoning. For dessert, we went for the rhum bhaba. Delicious and strong on the rum soaking! Topped with a heaping serving of whipped cream and flecks of vanilla, this dessert was prepared for us the quickest of all dishes, despite being ordered when there were the most customers in the restaurant. Great experience. Historic, fun, and not stuffy at all.

Quick glance: + frog legs in a variety of style + good wine + great décor — pricey Full review: Roger la Grenouille, or «Roger the Frog» in English, is a quirky restaurant with its entrance tucked away in a court yard. If we weren’t looking for it specifically, it could be easily missed. As the title implies, the restaurant’s specialty is frog, in particular frog’s legs, which you can have in more than a dozen different flavours. We had succulent frog legs in the classic flavour, heavy in garlic and parsley. Absolutely delicious. The place is quirkily decorated, and the wall is lined with paper on which people over the months have left comments in their native language, alongside small bills from their home country pinned to the wall. The price is on the high side(€ 74 for one portion of frog legs which came with rice, and a bottle of white wine), but you feel like you’re living part of the restaurant’s history, which has been there since the 1930s.

What a cute place. We wanted great traditional French food on our last night in Paris. Fortunately, this restaurant was just down the street from our hotel. I can’t imagine coming to a restaurant called«Roger the Frog» and not ordering grenouilles. The list is extensive and creative. They are served as large or small portions. I was stuffed with the smaller portion. The wine list was good and the Pouilly-Fume we selected was a favorite of our waiter. The owner and waitstaff were a really friendly group. The menu has a lot of other food if froggies aren’t your thing, but everyone should try them at least once!

We have been in Paris for about a month now and have walked past this place every night on our way home saying, «We should really try this place.» I don’t know what took us so long! Not only does it have a cool name and fun posters and knickknacks on the walls, the service was great. We showed up at 8:30 on a Saturday night without a reservation and they still found a way to get us in. On top of that, the food was delicious. The amuse bouche was a tomato mousse with balsamic vinegar reduction. I had the lamb chops with pumpkin gratin and my boyfriend had the price fix option with escargot for appetizer, the aoli cod with vegetables for main course. We split the pistachio and chocolate mille feuille for dessert. The food was all spot on and we plan to hit it up several more times during our visit.

We had a lot of meals in Paris(I mean really, a LOT) and the food here was definitely a standout. Maybe it’s because this is where we ate the most amount of really classically French food– but I think it’s probably just because the food here was amazing. The amuse bouche looks sort of like a salmon mousse, but you quickly realize that it’s tomato with a tiny dot of thick and syrupy balsamic on top. The taste is so absolutely tomato that it makes you feel like you’re eating a bowl of bisque when in fact, this mousse simply dissolves as soon as it hits your tongue. We started with the foie gras crème brûlée, the escargot and the fish soup. The foie gras crème brûlée is an absolute marvel. The sweet, crisp sugar is so lovely with the creamy, rich foie gras. A sprinkle of rock salt sends the flavors straight through the roof. The fish soup is fragrant and tastes of the sea without being fishy, even though it has nice chunks of fish swimming throughout. The escargot was actually my favorite. The green, garlicky mixture(which I’m pretty sure was spinach) was so nice on the plump, chewy little snails. I don’t care what anybody says; snails = yum! For my main I ordered the duck breast, which was enormous and came with a little gratin of potatoes and some caramelized apple slices. The skin was so beautifully brown and crispy I started salivating as soon as I laid eyes on it. The interior was perfectly rare, just as I requested. And the sauce was plentiful and perfect for the duck and the apples. My sister ordered frog legs done with a preparation of citrus, capers, croutons and herbs– my god were they good. Fortunately for me, she hit a mental«I’m eating frog» block about 2⁄3 of the way through her dinner, so my brother in law and I got to eat a good amount of them. He ordered the cod, which disappeared so quickly I didn’t even have a chance to have a good look at it. I assume it was satisfactory. I ordered the apple clafoutis for dessert, and it did not disappoint. Light and custardy, it came with a raspberry sorbet which was served in a separate little dish. I really appreciated that because I hate when people make a raspberry coulis and drench the entire dessert with it. This was a lovely palate cleanser and also complimented the clafoutis. The décor and ambiance are sort of shabby chic eclectic– a mixture of random pots, pans, knicknacks, musical instruments and a whole lot of frog themed items cover the walls and hang from the ceiling. Really the quintessential French bistro. I can’t wait to go back.

This place has some great priced menus — even at dinner! But what really stole the show for me was the foie gras crème brûlée. Oh my goodness! One my first visit we had the fried frog legs — delish! — and the cod with vegetables. Very fresh and tasty. The second time I had a caramelized salmon with braised endive — definitely more flavorful than the cod. This place is actually known for frog’s legs and doing many variations of them. I would highly suggest these as they looked GREAT! The problem is that we were quite hungry when we went and I was worried they wouldn’t fill me up.

The crème brûlée foie gras(of which we ordered two) has not helped the waistline here in beautiful Paris– this is one dish that this place is known for. Frogs are the other thing and in fact you’ll know you’ve arrived when you see the frog sign out front. We tried the fried frog legs appetizer although I would suggest trying the frog in a more unadulterated preparation. For mains I ended up ordering the aloli roasted cod. The fish was great, a bit fleshy, but what really left a lasting impression is the chef was brave enough to serve the accompanying vegetables(string beans, carrots) unsalted and unbuttered. It was an ex-Santa Cruzer’s dream come true. And this healthy serving of greens, my friends, more than made up for the guilty foie gras. I think we’ll be back here but don’t tell my cardiologist.

A little gem tucked away in a quiet narrow street in the 6e, «Roger the Frog» is well respected for its succulent frog legs. It caters to locals and discriminating tourists, seeking a refuge from the more touristy restaurants lining the adjacent street of St Andres des Arts. As the name implies, the focal point of the menu is frog legs prepared in a variety of styles. Less adventurous eaters have also a few options, including well prepared seafood, steak, and poultry plates. The wine list is short but respectable. Good humored waiters will tolerate foreign customers’ feeble attempts at speaking French while politely offering assistance in English. Service is fast and prompt. The restaurant is family owned, run by father and son. Later at night you will see one or both of the proprietors sitting down for dinner, then discussion the next day’s menu with the kitchen staff, before heading home for the night.
