We went there on a rainy Monday night. The food was amazing! We got the lobster bisque and seared foie gras. Both were delicious but the foie gras especially. Also all the bread is made in house(look for the point ends). For our main courses we got the veal and sweetbreads in puff pastry and roast chicken with aix en Provence herbs. The sweet breads were perfectly cooked and the puff pastry was beautifully crisp. The roast chicken was also solid. For dessert we had soufflés and they were wonderful. Light and airy and plenty of booze. Also try their house made liquer d’orange. It’s delightful.(Apparently it beat Cointreau and grand marnier in a national taste competition.)

I’m gonna start by saying I am not a Paris newbie so good food is a given. Work brings me here usually at least 4 times a year. I’m also a super lazy reviewer. I don’t always(although I should) review good places. For perspective we had dinner at Alinea in a Chicago a few months ago and I didn’t write a review for that! This one I HAD to review or it would truly be an injustice. This place was recommended by our hotel(Hotel Ekta — which is also phenomenal by the way). Traditional French cuisine done the good old fashioned way and the most wonderful, warm, unique service I think I’ve ever experienced. To start I had the escargots and my friend had the fois gras. Both excellent. For mains, I had a vol au vent Avec ris de veau(veal sweetbreads in a gravy in a delicious puff pastry shell) and my friend had the scallops baked in the shell en croute. In addition to the fantastic food, we had complimentary dessert, plus a free taste of their amazing proprietary orange liqueur. I don’t always think if returning to restaurants in Paris because there are SO many choices. But this is a new fave and I will most definitely be back.

Classic, elegant Parisian dining. In a velvet ensconced dining room, Harold serves the finest steaks and seafood available in the city. My husband and I dined at Paul Chene’s on our honeymoon and were blown away by the romantic ambiance, extensive wine selection, and dedicated service. We heartily enjoyed the lobster thermidor and beef filet. The restaurant uses a third generation family technique for their frites that stands head and shoulders above their Parisian competition. If you’re seeking first class dining, leave it to Paul Chene to provide a memorable and delectable experience.

One of the best bistro in the city of light. The owner /manager is fun and friendly, and the restaurants has English menu. It’s cooking is very classic. Herold keep reminding you the receipts have not been changed since 1959.

I have been to Paris probably 50 times, and dined at her finest restaurants(e.g. Le Grand Vefour, La Laurent, etc.) and Paul Chene is, by far, my favourite restaurant. It’s intimate and not pretentious. The décor is soft and pleasant. It’s classic French cuisine at its best. The staff is attentive and friendly. The noise level is quiet, but not like a tomb. I recommend the Confit d’Oie. I definitely recommend it for a romantic evening, or just dine by yourself!

We had a PHENOMENAL experience here. Five apps, four mains, two desserts, absolute perfection. Our concierge at the George V recommended the spot and we couldn’t be happier with it. This was our third dinner in Paris, the first was at Arpege, which was also sensational, and this was no step down. honestly I will be sure to visit again on each subsequent visit to Paris. There were about 10 main courses on the menu I would have liked to have tried but we enjoyed the lobster thermador, the scallops, and the sea bass(x2). My mom has to eat gluten free and they brought her amazing fresh bread. and a gluten free amuse bouche and everything after. Blown away.

We reserve our praise for only the most extraordinary experiences, of which Paul Chêné(and Harold) are one. So much so, we flew from the US to Paris to revisit this wonderful establishment in celebration of our 18th anniversary. We tried Paul Chêné based on a recommendation last December for our first time and could not have enjoyed ourselves more! We haven’t stopped thinking of the incredible food, delicious tastes and memorable company. This visit was just as exceptional. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu… a sample of champagne(homemade), foie gras, truffle scrambled eggs, escargot, the family recipe truffle scallop pastry dish, Royal hare, or crepes with orange liquor for dessert. Thank you so much Harold for sharing your heritage, family recipes and scrumptious delights with us. We cannot wait to return soon! Forever our favorite, the Watts

By far my favorite food in Paris!!! If you are in Paris, GOTOPAULCHENE. It is slightly out of the way and a very small place but well worth it. I went here on a recommendation from a hotel worker, and it was my favorite. I came with my family, and we all enjoyed it thoroughly. The food was deliciously simple, and the waiter, Harold, was extremely nice with a fantastic sense of humor. He was friendly, speaks semi-decent English, and recommended great food. Their meats are fantastic as well as anything with the orange liquor sauce. If I remember correctly, the orange liquor sauce is made from an orange cognac which the restaurant makes itself. Everything we tried from the menu was fantastic. Starters: Pan-Fried Foie gras Frog Legs(These were super tender and fell right off the bone) Main Course: Seasonal special — Rack of lamb Goose Confi Roasted Goose breast in orange liquor sauce Dessert Chocolate Mousse Crêpe(with orange liquor sauce) All of these were fabulous, and we even got an opportunity to try some of the fantastic sorbets which are offered as dessert as well. If you are in Paris, make time to try out Paul Chene.

My experience at Paul Chene was close to being perfect. The only thing is pricey and no set sampler menu. But it’s good pricey because you get good value for your money. Great dining experience all around. Contrary to one other Unilocal reviewer’s experience, they gave us a bunch of complimentary stuff and truly didn’t charge us. The owner even called us a local taxi to save us money back to our hotel. Best meal in Paris. My family of 4 ordered different stuff on the menu and special from starters to entrees, all very great.

We visited this restaurant in April of 2013 during our honeymoon. I didn’t review it then, but have always been haunted by the fact that I didn’t. We visited this restaurant after seeing great reviews on Trip Advisor. The restaurant was cozy and clearly upscale and classy. I remember that the waiter claimed to be the owner as well. He was soooooooo friendly and nice and gave us personal service. He chatted with us throughout the meal and kept us company. He poured us 2 glasses of champagne as we arrived. He would bring out special things for us to try and gave my new bride a sip of the house orange liqueur and special cognac. He also insisted in bringing us some Foie gras. He said it was the best in France. It was really good! It was what I felt was a great meal and great experience. We ended the meal with coffee. I’m not a coffee drinker, but he brought us two anyway. Now here’s the rub. I started a conversation with the table next to us during the end of dinner. My wife paid while I was talking. I later found out later that he charged us for everything he brought us down to the extra coffee I didn’t drink. I never felt so violated.($ 209 euros) Though the food was great, I will never eat there again. I see the owner as disingenuous and dishonest.

One of the best restaurant memories ever! This place is must for anyone visiting Paris and wants an incredible evening with great food, superb service and in a very nice setting that wont be forgotten in a long time. I travel a lot both in my work and private and as a «foodie» i always try to find the best places to eat. This is one of my top 3 places i have ever been to. Dont miss it! The food: I had the pan fried fois gras with the in Paul Chene orange cognac liquor sauce as an appetizer. Wow was it delicious! It was a big size of tender and creamy liver goodness with a sweet and lovely sauce that was great with the liver! Girlfriend had the sauteed scallops in garlic and parsley and this was equally delicious. Size was not the normal petit mini size as normally on 5 star restaurants. I think there was about 6 – 8 scallops and this was an appetizer! Yummy! For entrée i filé Rossini made traditionally with a slice of pan fried fois gras on the top and a marvellous truffle sauce. We choose the truffle mashed potatoes on the side and could not have been happier. The filé and fois gras was melt in your mouth perfect and so was the supersmoooth and tasty mash. As Harold our wonderful host and owner suggested the classic crepes suzette with the in house orange cognac liquer i couldnt say no even though«crepes» have always been«luxury pancakes» to me and im not really a big lover of pancakes. The dessert was good but didnt quite match the 5 star appetizers and entrées.My girlfriend picked the profiteroles wich are small delicious puff pastrys filled with ice cream. On arrival at the table Harold poured a thick and warm chocolate sauce all over the profiteroles to perfect the dessert. This was an awesome dessert and i was a bit sad i didnt pick the same. After the 3 dishes and bottle of great red wine(at a good rate as good wine are easy to find in Paris) i asked Harold about the taste of the dessert wine Sauternés wich i was curious to try. 2 minutes later Harold comes back with a complimentery glass of this superb dessert wine!!! He also told me its best enjoyed either with fois gras or cheese and gave me a free?! plate of 3 – 4 cheese to eat with the wine. What a nice touch! We also had a small glass of the orange cognac(free again) that is made from Harolds familys old recipe and iits very tasty. This is a wonderful little romatic and special place with just about 6 – 7 tables so book in time. Harold and the waitress(Harolds sister?) was both so nice and serviceminded that we cant wait to go back. Prices? Actually not bad at all. Comparing with 5 star restaurants in europe and in the us i must say that the prices are more then fare for the experience, quality of the food and the service. For a tree course meal with 1 bottle of wine i think we paid around 250 € with tip. As said before, dont miss the chance to eat at this place since the memories remain a long time.

Yesterday was my first visit in this restaurant. As I was dining with important Russian partners, it was important for me to find a restaurant that cooks good and typical French cuisine, is not too big so is quiet and I can talk at ease with them, and with friendly aymosphere as it is my way of doing business… I found Paul Chene thanks to TripAdvisor, it was exactly what I, was searching for. Although we arrived 7 in place of 5 and 3 of us arrived very late, everything was perfect! Having seen all the ordered dishes at my table, I can tell that all were good, and my personal recommendation are perfect Foie gras and perfect Champagne to start and do not forget the Cognac they are doing in the owner’s family for more than 200 years! Just a Wow effect! Do not hesitate one second if you want perfect French Cuisine in a perfectly French and relaxing atmosphere! Seb from Belgium

I know Paris well, having lived there for 5 years. This is my very favorite restaurant. Classic French cuisine(which is what Americans want when in Paris), intimate setting that is retro-chic, it is more quiet than many restaurants — so it’s great for romantic dinners and especially for business lunches. You can hear each other talk. Impeccable service that makes you feel extra special. They have the best French Fries in Paris. I like the foie gras starter, confit of goose(with French Fries) for the main course, and either the Grand Marnier soufflé or the profiteroles for dessert, and then some if their own family Orange Cognac as a digestif. YUM!
