Le Bar du Caveau

Away from the maddening crowd on a quiet street across from a park. We were made to feel very welcomed by the friendly staff. We were there after the lunch period, and had glasses of wine and sampled several of their incredible desserts: a just out of the oven clafoutis with Chantilly cream, a mango tart and a tarte tatin. Incredible! Guada, the manager could not have been more friendly. You must stop here!

The Ile de la Cite is a busy place in a busy city. Would you enjoy a place of calm and serenity close by but hidden enough to avoid all the disturbing experiences associated with an overcrowded island?
Bar du Caveau is tucked into the tip of Ile de la Cite, just off the Place Dauphine across from the Palais De Justice. Located in an ancient building with all the open ceiling timbers of the time, Caveau has only 8 tables and a small terrasse looking out on the Place Dauphine.
The small menu lists several plats de jour along with tartines, salads and other simple meals. The wine list covers the major growing regions of France with several selections from each.
After a snowy, winter day slogging through the streets of Paris to find such a simple gem with it’s few tables filled with locals from the neighborhood seemed to be the dream wine bar associated with Paris. The pleasure of a carafe of Burgundy and a plate of cheese will warm the soul of a weary traveler looking for respite from the madding crowd.

Le cadre est sublime, agréable et paisible en toute saison. C’est une des cantines des avocats parisiens qui se rendent au Palais de Justice mais aussi des grands flics du Quai des Orfèvres. Toutefois, il né faut pas s’attendre à des miracles culinaires ou gustatifs en ce lieu. Tout est moyen! La cuisine n’est ni bonne, ni mauvaise; les vins sont moyens et probablement choisis par le négociant ou le fournisseur; les desserts sont pareils, par contre à moins d’être fan du rayon fromager du supermarché et des pubs TV, vous oublierez le fromage! Le service quant à lui dépend beaucoup de qui vous servira… Au final l’addition né sera pas surprenante, elle suivra le fils du repas.
