Started with stale bread and lukewarm escargot… the maitre d’ could serve cat-food with an unctuous smile, and our poor waitress was having a seemingly endless bad night; save the air-fare: Randazzo’s Clam Bar in Brooklyn is better…

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful meal here when we visited Paris in June. We are both avid seafood lovers and were really looking forward to enjoying some fruits de mer in Paris. Le Bar a Huites did not disappoint! They have an impressive selection of fresh seafood. We started with a seafood tower with langoustes, oysters and shrimp. Our waiter was really helpful in describing the menu and helping us make a great selection. We loved the table set-up — they have metal arms that extend from the top of the tables to hold the seafood towers, which we thought was a great idea! For our main course, we both ordered the Dover sole, which was incredible… a real treat! The restaurant also has an extensive wine list with wines from all over the world. We opted for a delicious Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. We forced ourselves to have dessert… some fresh garden strawberries, something we cannot find at home in Chicago. It’s also worth noting that the restaurant décor was very modern and sleek — their menus are on iPads which takes some getting used to but adds a unique touch to the experience. We had a great table next to the window so we could enjoy the lovely Montparnasse neighborhood as we ate our meal. We will definitely return here the next time we are in Paris!

If i could give this place a point of one of the stars I would. This is definitely a tourist trap. I travel all over and this was the worst meal I have ever had .the mussels were filled with sand and I needed a vomit bag for one that Tasted like the bottom of a sewage river The place is very deceiving when you see it from the outside very ritzy… there’s no seasoning on the seafood and the service is horrible The waiters walk around like they’re busy and it’s like they’re hanging out in the back making you wait. The 49 Euro Seafood Plate came with one shrimp and the rest were barnacles that you see on the bottom of a boat or on the pier horrible horrible horrible the Chinese who eat all kinds of exotic and non-eatible foods that we don’t eat in the USA were sitting across from us in a table and they were spitting the food into their plates that was my cue to get the F#&$ out of here… The plate is displayed in a stand over your head so u dont see i guess what your eating. They have a fancy way of having their menus on ipads showing beautiful colored cooked seafood and in reality you get this raw looking brown display of seafood thank god there was bread. We ordered 2 Compare spritzers find out at end they were € 36 when thats a € 9 drink. Save your €€€€ unless your a sea mammal or a Sea gull I’m just saying…

It is a very nice restaurant looking in from the outside. It’s definitely eye catching, which prompted me to go in. As we walked in, we were immediately greeted and seated. Within 5 mins, we got the menu, which they use an iPad. It’s a very creative idea. However, 20 mins later after we were waiting and waiting for service. The restaurants employees were walking back and forth but didn’t give us any attention. No one even offered us a drink while waiting. Negative star for sure. We ended walking out without eating.

It took two tries, but this place is worth it. The set menu has huge portions and quality food. The first time we stopped for dinner, sat outside, and left after 10 minutes when no server ever stopped by. We returned the following day for lunch and had the best waiter we’ve had during our trip in France. We sat inside, which I think helped, and were impressed by portion size and presentation. Lunch prix dice is either 26 or 39 euros; the latter was the only option due to it being a holiday. Oysters and mussels were lovely and substantial. For mains, the beef tartar is great, but enough for two people. Fish of the day was fresh and light. Desert was ok, and a nice finish(though not necessarily worth it a la carte). Overall, a terrific lunch and can’t say enough about the service we received. Tips: it’s possible to get a carafe of tap water if you’re looking to save a few dollars,

Nous y avons dîné récemment. Cela a beaucoup changé.

Pretentious and very disappointing. The food was okay yet service horrible. Unprofessional and cold. The crab starter and cod main were lovely. The fish soup and risotto with prawns and squid horribly executed. It’s probably only nice if you like to overpay to look good. They forgot our water and because one in our party was in a wheelchair we were offered a seat out of the busy area. I genuinely think there’s no outside of busy area in this place. They need to learn that you don’t bother your customers with your stress. If you charge over € 100 per cover I expect to be taken care of and an experience. Very disappointing. The hostess was sweet though and made an effort to make up.

I’ve been driving by this place for months. I reserved for 2 and we ordered the menu at 47 €. A platter arrives with crab, oysters, prawns, baby tiny shrimp, clams, mussels and some other shell fish. If you like cold shell fish, this is the place for you! The presentation is beautiful, with dry ice. We loved the shrimp(a lot more flavorful than any in the USA) and loved the oysters. We had a coupon for a free coupe de champagne from a magazine. And we ordered wine. The service is so so. First of all, people kept coming in and cutting in line. I had to complain in order to get my table. Then service was slow, it was a beautiful night and the restaurant was packed, it just seemed as if they were understaffed.

Have been in Paris a week and after having a week’s worth of great meals, both cheap and expensive, this was the worst dining experience by far. Our server was inattentive, the food runner/bus boy seemed to care more about us. My risotto was undercooked and nothing to write home about. Two sides were never even delivered. Once the bill showed up it turned into a bait and switch. Somehow the items listed in the 44 € four course menu were no longer«in menu» and one of the desserts on its own was 40 €. Thankfully they removed that from the check, but it still did not redeem our dinner.

LAMEN-TABLE !

The Bar à Huitres chain(there a few restaurants scattered across Paris) has had a facelift and it’s clear the new owners are going for a modern luxury feel. Menus have been replaced by ipads and prices have gone up. The seafood selection is vast(shellfish, oysters, fish…) and the quality of the produce high. I want to give this restaurant 4 stars but I do think the pricing is excessive. I know that fresh seafood is expensive but I can’t feeling that the prices are high in order to cover the cost of flat screen TVs and black toilet paper in the bathrooms… that’s a little nuts if you ask me!

All style and no substance, from the gaudy LED signage out front to the iPad menus. The ridiculously overpriced yet well-presented, towering seafood platters are only good for the oysters, while the lobster tastes like pencil eraser and the crab like gills. The waiters are snotty and management powerless and unapologetic. The«minute spinach» came only after asking for it three times and after main courses were cleared. They also attempted charging us for desserts included in a three course offering of uncooked skate and one-bite-awful crème brûlée. The seafood here has clearly died in vain and couldn’t even be saved if fried in gold bouillon and given away. This was our worst dining experience not just in Paris, but perhaps anywhere, including my lunch with a Pygmy tribe in remote Uganda. Save your money for more worthwhile pursuits, like setting it on fire.

Under new management by a big corporate group, Le Bar a Huitres has tried to move upscale and failed. It looks like a tacky Las Vegas casino, with the loud indoor music to match. Prices are very steep and the only justification is a lot of bling bling. Food is average, service is cold and inattentive. All in all, it’s fair to call it a trap for rich tourists.

I’m spoiled. I live in the Pacific NW where we have some of the best seafood on the planet and all I have to do is go to the corner seafood counter and grab local mussels, crab and oysters. When I ordered my seafood platter at Le Bar a Huitres I had visions of being blown away by seafood that MUST be better because I’m in Paris and at these prices it must be fantastic. Alas, it was not. The oysters were the best part of the meal then after that it was a total letdown. It isn’t that it was bad but rather that it wasn’t as good as I can get at home. I also had a problem with the preparation of the shellfish. I understand that things are different in France but I’m telling you that no one can get a chilled mussel with cocktail sauce out of the shell when it hasn’t been cut from the adductor! It was the same for the oysters but I didn’t have problems getting them removed because they were fresh. That being said, it is a great place to just enjoy the show! Waiters weaving through the packed tables with HUGE platters of seafood high above their heads. The atmosphere is electric! Desserts were surprising good so leave some room for those.

This was a rare find for a lovely spontaneous brunch in Paris. Great for people watching on a main intersection. Sit by the window. As you sit down you are greeted with an Ipad for the menu. You must scroll through to view everything on it. Pretty fancy. They offer a nicely priced lunch(a menu). I believe was 25 Euro for three courses. The oysters are very nice(Although not the original place we wanted to go called just«Huitres» it is supposed to be the best, but was closed.) We ordered this massive platter of oysters, and it came with baby prawns and also alot of snails called … Weltees? and wittles? Small and big. They give you a little metal pointer to pry them out of the shells with. It is a ridiculous display of food, complete with dry ice in the middle. Plus they have to go outside to get most of the Oysters, so you see your waiter walking outside in front of your window to bring you this huge platter. Lovely with the Chardonay I was enjoying. The most ridiculous thing about this restaurant were the bathrooms. Every person visiting Paris should check them out. They really are the nicest ones I have ever seen in Paris, or maybe anywhere. Flat screen TV’s show HD pictures of gourmet fushion foods, while you sit on a square… yes, SQUARE black sleek toilet. I was very confused with my feelings while I was in there. I guess it is the future, but I’m not quite ready for all that yet. Plus I was hungry looking at the food, yet going to the bathroom? Wierd mix. I would not however go here for dinner, only lunch. This place would break the bank for dinner, and i don’t think it would hold up as well.

With all the seafood out on display and menus in six languages, it’s obvious this place is set up to trap tourists walking the street. Even though we didn’t stop that night, it worked on us, because we decided to eat there a few nights later. All we really wanted was a mountain of tasty seafood and this place delivered. The service was very friendly and fellow patrons even made some conversation with us in English when they realized we didn’t speak French. The prices are fairly expensive, but I can’t say a I expected to get great value for money on a huge platter of seafood in Paris. I think it’s worth a visit if you’re looking for such a meal. If you’re on a budget or want normal size portions, skip it.

PARIS! France Do you want to know where to find the absolutely best oysters in Paris, France? Yes? OK follow me! Let’s take a tour; but let’s first get into the right mood. It is Sunday brunch time and you had a bit of rough night and should have skipped that last bar after the jazz session. Breakfast is out of the question and now you walk down the streets of Montparnasse. There is the odd Madame with her dog, the old man reading his paper in the café, light is still white and hasn’t reached its the yellow afternoon tone, giving sort of pastellish moode and Paris seems to be sleeping or at least very slow. The music of past legends such as Edit Piaf and Hot Club de France(Stephan Grappelli-Django Reinhart) and modern legends to come(eg Roland Dyens: ) come to mind. You pass La Coupole on Blvd Montparnasse(see my review on here), also pass the excellent fish restaurant Le Dome($$$) at number 108 in the corner of Blvd Raspail(the best fish restaurant in Paris is Le Duc, not far away on 243 Blvd Raspail $$$$). Cross the Raspail and you have arrived at Le Bar a Huitres, 112 Blvd du Montparnasse. Don’t take a table but sit in the bar, order several kinds of oysters to your liking with an iced Chablis or Pouilly-Fume to go with. After an hour or two your are again fit for fight and you have experienced the best kept secret of Oyster Paris! Google earth coordinates: 48deg50’29.55″ N //2deg19’47.79″ E
