Simple but comforting food. Ran into the beloved fashion designer Mr Paul Smith in the middle of lunch, got his autograph, super!

We wanted a change of pace with our meals within the 2 weeks we have been in Paris. This is also our 3rd Visit to Paris within 2 yrs, so we kind of got a feel for what we wanted for a change. A light meal is needed for some ppl. away from heavy sauces and 3 full courses… away from street food and big desserts. It just fits what we needed for the day. A nice relaxing light meal without the hurried pace of a crowded lunch spot. or a long line at a street food vendor. We ordered: 2 hot teas Tomato Mozzarella Tartine(the best we had) Chicken Tartine(meh. We had better. Not recommended) The tartine order comes with either an order of salad or soup and we got the soup. Today it is butternut squash. 31.xx€ During our meal, we watched a few ppl coming in ordering business lunches to take away(emporter). It was nice to see the array of tartines being made in front of us. We enjoyed our meal and that’s what is important.

We love coming here for breakfast or lunch. The tartines are fantastic. The are so flavorful. You can’t go wrong with any choice. Pastries and croissants from famous Poilane are phenomenal. Hard to resist just having one. Service is friendly and quick.

Good but not great; however, I am not a huge fan of the Poilâné bread as well, so maybe that’s why? It is a bit expensive and the flavors lack character. The first time I went, I got the goat cheese tartine which was tasty, but after my 10th bite(bread slices are huge), I couldn’t stand the goat cheese anymore… and I love goat cheese! I went a second time and ordered the tofu tartine. This one was actually alright… it had herbed tofu on top of a veg cream… it was just that though. Stop by if you are curious, but otherwise, not worth the effort.

It’s not cheap, but I’ll definitely be going back for lunch in the future. The lunch deal of a salad, Tartine, coffee and a glass of wine can’t be beat. Everything was delicious from the mustard vinaigrette to the amazing chevre tartine. I want to go back and try the specialty sardine tartine. In short, this place is amazing!

I hate to give a poor rating considering so many people have raved about this place but I was really disappointed. Perhaps I had played it up too much considering the great reviews, but I didn’t have a positive experience. I was seated at one of the large tables in the back, directly beside a couple. My seat was legitimately right next to them, and I felt as though I was intruding on their lunch date. I asked for a glass of red to start and made the mistake of asking for my salad with chicken, so the waiter didn’t realize I wanted to order from the dejeuner menu, even though I was pointing to it as I spoke, but I understand how I’m at fault here. When I asked to keep my menu because I hadn’t decided which tartine I wanted, he realized that I hadn’t ordered the entrée salad, so he went to tell the chef. She made a scene. She leaned over and looked directly at me from behind the counter and waved her arms and complained loudly asking what she could do with the salad now, it’s such a waste, etc etc. I felt extremely uncomfortable. Had they not reacted as such, I would have gladly offered to just make the large salad my meal. From that point on, my waiter seemed to just be annoyed with me and pretty much ignored me. Regardless, I enjoyed the little salad when it came out, nothing special but the mustard dressing and piece of bread it came with were good. I ordered the«roasted» chicken tartine which I do not recommend if you like your chicken cooked well done. It tasted and looked undercooked to me. The best part of the meal was definitely the Poilane cookie that was served with the coffee. In the future, I will just head to the bakery and get some goodies from there. I have to agree with other viewers too that the fare is definitely light and for 15 euros you can get something more substantial and better elsewhere. Despite being half French and ordering in French, I have never felt more like a «tourist» here in terms of how I was treated.

Great lunch spot in a very nice area. Quick service, delicious soups and sandwiches and very laid back ambiance. We came in for a late lunch and this was exactly what we needed. However, I wouldn’t say it’s excellent. I had the sardine tartine which had nothing special. Others had artichoke and chicken which were way better than mine. The gazpacho was excellent. When I add those up is when I get to the 3 star rating.

The BEST lunch spot in Paris, France. I cannot rave enough about how amazing my open faced sandwhich experience was. Simple menu and great prices for quality food! LOVELOVELOVE!

We had a pleasant light lunch after our flight in from Rome. I had the smoked salmon and my bf had the artichoke/tomato/tapenade tartine. The sandwiches were very good, tasty and flavorful but light. My bf also had the soup, which we expected to be a hot split pea but it was a ice-cold split pea… not good. My grapefruit juice tasted like it came from a mix, but my bf’s hot chocolate was definitely from a mix because we saw them mixing it from a packet. The salad is also pre-packaged, as I saw a worker ripping the bag open. Overall, the tartines are good but very overpriced.

Went for lunch at Cuisine de Bar and tried their tartines(open faced sandwiches). We had one with sardines and another with duck and three cheeses. The tartines were all right but nothing to write home about. The restaurant had run out of soup, so we just had a so-so salad with the sandwiches. The food is definitely edible, but the place seems overpriced and a little overrated(especially judging from the English reviews on Unilocal).

The tartine sandwiches here are excellent. I had fois gras, my companion had the sardine. Really simple preparations with delicious clear flavor. The waitstaff is attentive and nice and the whole setting is rather sophisticated. I think it’s a tad overpriced but I would definitely return.

Chouette

Sooo jealous of the other reviewer who used to live on this street! We stayed down the block and came to La Cuisine de Bar our first day in Paris for their lunch special — an open faced sandwich along with a salad, glass of wine, and a café. Basically. the perfect lunch meal =) My husband had a smoked salmon sandwich(he enjoyed it) and I had a tomato/mozzarella/basil sandwich. Happy to find something vegetarian-friendly! The salad was a little weird — randomly it had raisins and corn in it — but whatevs. The mustard dressing was super strong but really tasty. I’d definitely recommend this place for a casual lunch. It’s pretty small so you may be elbow to elbow at a communal table with other people.

I used to live on this street, Rue Cherche Midi, and Poilane was my «bread» shop. Now I have two reasons to visit this street again… Poilane and the restaurant next door, La Cuisine de Bar. They make lovely open faced sandwiches that come with a small delicious salad and a glass of wine. The base is Poilane bread that they warm up, then top with salmon or chicken or tomatoes or various other toppings. My favorite sandwich here is the Poulet… roast chicken with capers and anchovies. For such a simple menu, they pack big flavor and imagination into their sandwiches.

This is a faithful stop on my Paris trips, especially when I used to go there a couple of times a year. On a quaint little street on the Left Bank(2 doors down from its sister Poilane), you will find the best«sandwich» ever. It’s actually a broiled«tartine» — bread from Poilane with a limited selection of «toppings»: foie gras, salmon, chicken, sliced meats etc. My favorite hands-down is the sardine. The best way to try the others is to share with the others in your group, and this is easily done since you get about 6 – 8 of them. Although be warned that I’ve seen people become possessive of their order — it is that good! The menu is very limited — you can get a little salad with lentils(also delicious) and there are some dessert options. It is a long and somewhat narrow but bustling place. The décor is simple but stylish in that very French way. They don’t take reservations, and they won’t seat you till everyone in your group is there, but the staff is lovely and I’ve never left unsatisfied. After every trip, I wonder why someone hasn’t brought the concept to NYC yet(and fantasize that maybe I should) — but then I remember… you need Poilane!
