Chambery Airport really is the gateway to the Alps during the winter season. This Airport is nothing more than the size of a bus station, which just so happens to have a runway! All major UK tour operators fly into Chambery in the winter as it has the shortest transfer time to the ski resorts of Tignes, Meribel and La Plagne at just over 2 hours. The Airport does have some negative aspects; such as the lack of space for guests wanting to check in, the Queue regularly extends out the door and into the car park. Facilities for waiting passengers are also very limited, 1 small restaurant and a handful of shops. But for arriving guests things are great, the plane can literally park next to the luggage collection point so you get your bags back very quickly. Also the coaches can get very close to the front doors so you can be very soon on your coach and heading for the mountains.
