Excellent pasta, slow service though! Staff is friendly and helpful. Limited wine list

We had a great dinner here! The starter snacks of bread and cheese and olive oil was wonderful, with both a truffle cheese and gorgonzola spread. We also liked the restaurant’s white wine, Proseo. For appetizers we had a green salad and tomatos with bufala — both excellent. For mains, I had the pumpkin ravioli with sage oil and my friend had the spicy lobster pasta. Again, both excellent. Desserts were not as evenly wonderful. I had the lemon pannacotta with cloudberry soup and merengue, which didn’t quite go together. The pannacotta was a little tough without a lot of flavor. The tiramisu was wonderful, however, and we even ordered it again for room service the second night. Recommend making a reservation — the place was totally booked.

We came to Helsinki on a business trip and really did not have a lot of time to spent on meals. But we were craving for something different than eating salmon, so we decided to come here despite the 3 star rating because it is the closest italian restaurant to our hotel that looked descent. It turned out to be a relatively good experience because the food tasted great! The fried octopus with raw salmon was great, really loved the pasta dishes we ordered particularly the tiger prawns fettuccine. The angus steak was quite awesome also. For desert, the tiramisu did deserve to be their top desert dish. Now the service. Although not rude, we didn’t fell very welcome either. The waiter forgot to tell me one of the dishes we ordered was sold out until I asked him. Thank god we decided to share everything on the table and I was quite stuffed by the time I found out. It just seemed that they may have been under staffed because I can tell his frustration came from being overwhelmed with his tasks at hand. It was decent of him to apologize in the end for his lack of attention, but unfortunately the night was ruined a bit. I would still come back the next time though because the food was worth it.

I only had their buffalo mozzarella appetizer because quite frankly they had a very limited menu and if you were not in the mood for pasta, you’re out of luck. The lump of mozzarella in my salad was cold in the middle. Really? How can you screw up such a simple dish?

Toscanini is an ultra cool looking Italian restaurant but outside of looks, there’s not much else. I came here with my sister and we ordered of the set menu. I got a green cold soup with microgreens but holy soup, Batman, it was overseasoned. For my next course, I got a clam pasta ragout dish but the ragout wasn’t proportional to the amount of pasta I got. What’s worse was that the clams were about the size of a quarter. Very very tiny. The dessert was the winning part of the meal(tiramisu). Despite the tasty dessert, it was still a pretty poor dining experience. It was busy and our server left halfway during our meal and it was pretty clear that the message wasn’t relayed to the rest of the server team. I had to get the restaurant manager to close out our tab. If you’re visiting Helsinki, best to avoid Toscanini. With the looks of the Klaus K, it looks super swanky and high end, but maybe it’s best if they stick with hospitality and steer clear of culinary.

This is a very pleasant Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the über-cool Klaus K Hotel. Service was quite pleasant. I ordered one of two set menus. I started with the vitello tonnato, little pink slices of cold roasted veal set on a salty tuna sauce. I have had better versions elsewhere, but this one was quite nice nonetheless. Next up was the night’s winner, a small plate of ravioli filled with(I think) parmiggiano reggiano and served in a thyme-infused butter sauce and strewn with little mushrooms that they call chanterelles but I think were another variety. Quite spectacular! I then had a rather small portion of Arctic char, one of my favorite fish varieties. It was cooked a bit more than I normally like, but still moist. It was served with a root vegetable purée(very buttery and delicious), a medley of crunchy cucumbers and apples and a very discordant black olive purée, which I found too salty and assertive for a mild fish like char. Dessert was a very decent tiramisu. The set menu was 48 euros. I don’t think that is a bad value in an expensive city like Helsinki.

Great location in the stylish Klaus K Hotel, right in the heart of Helsinki’s Design District, and the cuisine did not disappoint. The homemade ravioli with asparagus and a sage butter sauce lingered with every bite. I followed the ravioli with one of the most flavorful tiramisus I have had in ages.
