We were to meet some Finnish friends and this was an easy place to find so we ended up here, which Jaari said was a nice bar. It was! It’s located at that fantastic art deco-style train station and the bar itself does have a bit of that same feel about it. It’s a cross between an old bar and a spacious pub. It is also quite expensive if you plan to get spirits. Me, I opted for the local beer, Karhu III. A half liter set me back 6.40 Euro, which was reasonable for Helsinki prices. It’s a great place to check out and have a beer if you’re waiting for a train or are just in the mood to relax and have a drink.

Authentic pub feeling in a great location. I can imagine this place is a frequent watering hole for commuters. Decent selection of whiskeys and brews. I had a Twisted Thistle IPA from the tap. Tasty but not exactly affordable — a good summary of this place, generally. Very comfortable, roomy seating. Plenty of space between tables and booths — doesn’t feel cramped. I’ll be back to this bar but its pretty average for Helsinki. The barkeep was particularly unfriendly on this midweek visit — seemed irritated when I ordered. Its a bar — customers purchase frothy beverages, imbibe, and inebriate. Get used to it.
